It IS a step backwards and highlights just one of the big problems with voice acting a main character. We are now are going to have less choice, smaller game, and more rail like action, like ME which sucks since it will kill the replay value.

I've ran through ME1 and 2 about 15 times each....different strokes.

Indeed, I never even bothered to finish DAO but I played through ME at least 5 or 6 times and am currently on my fourth ME2 playthrough.

I think I replayed Dragon Age more times than I ever did with Mass Effect. Having various races and origin stories made interesting to see how different the game would be.

I never really played any origin fully that wasnt the human noble. So it doesnt bother me as much but i do think it is unfair to completely rule out the possibility of being an elf or dwarf.

Well I played most of them. But mostly I played as Elves.

Hawke is a stupid name.

No, but don't you see? There's a silent  E on the end. So it's hip and cool.

1. Ferelden does not have Earth history
2. It's still an incredibly stupid name. It will be even worse for a female character.

1. Ferelden is roughly analogous to the British Isles linguistically. I think it's a fair point.

2. True, it is a little odd. As a surname, I'd really prefer something with two syllables.

Let's say that there are three paths: human on the left, elf in the middle, and dwarf on the right. Dragon Age 2 is taking a step to the left and is looking back at Dragon Age. XD

I understand the frustration but when I thought about it the only time it felt different (when playing another race) is when I played the dwarf.  For some reason the differences between Elf and Human weren't that great.  I mean they looked too similar, except one had pointy ears.

The annoying part was the dwarves just felt like a very squished out
version of the human, as if someone put a human in one of those car
compactors.  I think the only interesting feature about the dwarves was
the beard.  Other than that they were as boring to look at as the elves.

I think that was one of the problems was the races didn't feel different from each other besides the clothing.

I don't think they're going backwards as they are simplifying things A LOT.  If they keep going at this rate the next DA will only include only sword and shield because whatever reason.
