What were your characters inspired by?

Did you simply make up a face, and, while looking at it, think of what sort of personality might live behind those eyes?
Inquiring minds want to know! <3

My mage is loosely based off of Jason Isaacs. The rest just came to me.
If only you could get his voice in game too

Usually I'll try and recreate it as best I can within the limitations, but *shrugs*.
Other than that I'm just fooling around, and usually my better ones (imo) come about more when I don't care about the outcome as opposed to trying to have the character fit a specific image.

And, if I can throw my opponent off a building or "gently push" them off a cliff, I will (I love Assassin's Creed!)
I tend to be congenial in conversation. I will never use the "shut the hell up" option for dialog choice. I prefer the "what the hell is wrong with you?" response rather than the "oh, you poor dear!"

Sharreth was inspired by Deviija's Aeoli. She had such a pretty bronzed look that I decided I'd try that, and add a bit more dalish wildness, and this is what I got. I still have to develop a personality for her.

Casavel was inspired by Purple Lady's amazing looking guys. I really liked that soft, yet hard look they had, and wondered if I could do something like that. I'm not sure if I made it work for him or not. The eyebrows bother me and I might change them.

Celeste was inspired by Golden_Rose's beautifully ethereal characters. I couldn't make her completely soft, I had to add a few flashes of dark and bright... that's just my way!

Rivie basically was inspired by the lore of the game itself. The dalish religion and customs and ways just remind me so much of native american traditions... it seemed fitting to make a character that looked at least somewhat native american, and to try to give them that serenity I see in so many pictures and work by native americans.

Rowan is my version of Baldur's Gate's Coran. He's not an elf, and unfortunately I can't capture either the awesome emerald green tattoos or the ****-eating grin, but he is still a spiritual tribute.
Ritha, Alicia and Novaera have been constant characters for me.. well, their basic personality has been. I've always had characters with those characteristics in every game I've played. All others not mentioned were simply made up in the CC and developed from there.

Luckily, with the release of the CC I could experiment earlier the look of the character or it'd have taken hours to decide it..!

Were I to design a commoner he would probably be a bit rougher around the edges, perhaps with some scars or a tattoo, but that does not make sense for my perception of a nobleman. If I were making a rogue he might appear more suave and charismatic and less stoic, and if it were a mage he might appear wiser.

Yeah, I get that. It's part of why my noble dwarf has no tattoos, and my noble female, Alicia doesn't have them either. My noble male, Rowan, does, but he's always been a rebel. The others have them for various reasons mostly made up because I love the facial tattoos in this game. <3Sornin wrote...
I take my inspiration from how I envision the character looking based on his history and personality. For example, my current avatar is my human Warrior of noble birth, and I envision him as being intelligent, well-mannered, and clean-cut.

Pics here... social.bioware.com/23106/albums/12816
1) Enderion De'Veryn - made up the name (French) while creating a character in Diablo 2. He's a little of everything I love about Elves and Rangers that I've read in Forgotten Realms books mostly, with a hint of Drizzt's spirituality.
2) Enterius Dreamwalker - made up the name for my Sorcerer in Dark Age of Camelot. He's wise in magic, lore, and loves to control things to his advantage. Very Neutral. Big fan of Crowd control abilities and Mana Regen/Debuff spells. Mostly inspired by Red Wizards of Thay.
3) Kaizen - I use this name for any type of dual wielding melee character I make, especially if it's an oriental themed game. Mostly inspired by D&D Orient ninjas with a hint of Artemis Entreri and/or Jarlaxle philosophy mixed in.
4) Moira - Evil aligned female caster inspired by Ravenloft setting, with a small dose of the Forgotten Realms Pantheon lore.
I could go on, but I do so hate long posts....

Fasais: The basic idea for him came soon after Bioware released details about the origins earlier this year. I've always liked elves/half-elves, rangers and druids, so a Dalish for my first character was a no-brainer. They also reminded me of Native Americans, which was an additional appeal for me, as I've studied various northeastern and southeastern tribes since I was a kid. Therefore, I wanted my Dalish to look at least somewhat Native American; originally, I planned to model him a bit after Uncas from Last of the Mohicans looks-wise, but was unable to do that in the creator. While I was somewhat sad about this, in the end I'm kind of glad, as I generally prefer to make designs of characters straight from my own imagination, rather than diliberately basing them off of someone.

Legam: His looks were a lot simpler in idea. I wanted someone who looked interesting to me, and also felt a bit like a gentle soul. I think, on some level, he was also subconsciously designed after some traits I find attractive, because he's got three things I generally find in men who are visually attractive to me: dark skin, black/dark brown hair, and facial hair.

Dalag: The portrait's not up to date with how he looks now, but I don't feel like reuploading him. For Dalag, I was simply playing around with the CC and trying to find something that looked like a good noble dwarf to me. Someone who was young, but not too young (that's why his newer version has a smaller beard), yet also looked a bit worn from stress/the burden of responsibility.
Eileia: Again, I was playing around with the CC. Personally, I'm not fond of make-up in general, both in the CC and in real life. Unless they're more naturally colored tones that subtle accentuactes someone's natural looks, they tend not to be my bag. Thus, none of my females have make-up. For Eileia, I tried to make someone with at least a few "plain" aspects - like her thicker eyebrows and tying up her hair. I figure her to be a bit more practical in this area, being an alienage elf and a rogue.
Gwen: Again, no make-up. I decided to go with tattoos for this noble human for two reasons: 1. I had Celtic women in mind when I made her, and the blue tattoos reminded me of blue body painting/tattooing/dyeing some Celts did before battle; 2. It's been said that Ferelden is barely civilized, closed to being a barbaric state. I can see a country that's scarely past barbarism still holding on to tattooing culture for their nobles.
Yenni: Again, I was just playing around with the CC. At first, I was going to focus on giving her heavier/more masculine features, but then I figured that was too "general fantasy dwarf stereotype" and went in a bit of the opposite direction. I made her hair this shade and chose that hairstyle, because out of the choices, to me it looked the dirtiest/scruffy/unkempt/etc, as I imagine a casteless dwarf wouldn't be able/think to worry about their appearance as much as others. She did have a more elaborate tattoo at first, and I liked a lot of the dwarf commoner tattoo designs, but in the end, the basic one seemed to fit her best.
