2 of my characters were based on old D&D characters I played.
Calibisto was a Firemage (Though I'm not exactly happy about his beard)
Victoria a paladin. Though for DA I changed his gender
Ungrim is inspired by a Warhammer Slayer.

My characters tend to be inspired from all over the place and sometimes random themes I keep going whenever I get to RP characters.

Here's some examples of the thought process that goes into my characters.

social.bioware.com/uploads_user/12000/11737/1579.jpg
Lysse: an example of a "pre-meditated" character, keeping with my theme of having a solemn mage/warrior. Her face is one that is reoccuring for me, I can't help but  make characters that look similar to her it seems.

social.bioware.com/uploads_user/12000/11737/1581.jpg
Torm: Torm was created after wanting to create a character that would evoke the "honorable warrior" feel that Teal'c and many of the Jaffa from Stargate SG-1 gave. And while Torm doesn't look exactly like any Jaffa I'm aware of, I think I captured the feel quite well.

social.bioware.com/uploads_user/12000/11737/1578.jpg
Helena: she is the product of pure random messing about with the sliders until I decided that she would look quite good being rather irate.

Even if I never play them, I love recreating my past characters from other RPG's. Eadgyth is my main character, I have played her ever since BGII and she has appeared in everygame except KotOR and ME. Cartrin, Adhara and Gwen are some of my original BG characters.

Mac is a new character, based on a version of myself I made for Fallout 3 but haven't played yet. Looking at the CC, I thought she would make a cute dwarf.

I always have problems making male characters, but I based the appearences of Malachy and Aleksej on two guys I know and their characters are based on the personalities of the real people to some degree. Aleksej is also my token 'Rincewind' character, a wiz(z)ard who tries not to fight and runs away fast (spent ages mucking around with a similar character on a no-kills run of Oblivion).

I spend so much time making characters and rarely play them all. Though I am looking to play the origin story at least with most of them.

I build his looks and personality realistically, based upon his origin.

For example, the Human Noble is the younger child (son, in my case) of a Teyrn. So my Human Noble Warrior would have grown up like nobility, learning about the finer things in life (wine, women, art, etiquette), becoming egocentric, and perhaps even a bit posh.

While his older brother was being groomed to usurp their father's position and struggling under the watchful eye of the public, my character was left to leisure, slipping into promiscuity and becoming somewhat of a "playboy" and taking neither his duties nor people very seriously until his father was betrayed by a trusted ally.

They're all based on my shear imagination. All except for 1, that is always based on myself.

I have always played RPG games & tried to stay loyal to a race. I started off with the Eye of the Beholder trilogy..........Whoops ! gave away my age there ....lol. I play an Elf usually, an archer & always wanted to have one with red hair. I love the history, mystery & classes of them. I really hope the game lives up to the hype. I reallly loved Oblivion & played it to death completing all the quests.

MY EGO!

Okay, I'll play properly as well.

Image IPB
Kane: His character is based on the very classic definition of a dwarf, mixed with some of my own expectations from DA:O. While he looks like the classical dwarf, he'll carry a certain attitude with him that will make the game more interesting. He also carries some strong resemblance to dwarves I used to RP with back on NWN.

Image IPB
Jaeriel: He is another clone of two other characters I've made before, Yahi Fudosawa and Vilduil Dy'ness. His character is heavily inspired by roleplay with a friend of mine, simply named Fing. Nothing short of hilarious.

Image IPB
Latja: Pippi Longstockings. No joke.

Image IPB
Jamie: Another friend of mine, though with a bit of toned down seriousness. He's your paladin with no stick up his bum, kind of guy.

Image IPBImage IPB
Jania and Amber: Plainly ripped off inspired by Deviija's and Ameryl's avatars. No, I have no shame no control.

Please stop me. :o

Alyssa: Made her up having innocence, inexperience and young age in mind while also having that exotic, more appealing noble look.

Mordaedil, you've quite many characters but I like them! Love the Pippi character, just a shame that there's no option for freckles ^_^

I have tried to have an idea about what I'm going for, but it always ends up going out the window. I start with just the face and a bald head and work from there. I've noticed a lot of them look like they are related so I must have some idea in the back of my head about what I like. Then I add the hair and see what the end results are.

I've gone back many many times and twitched this or that. I'll probably keep doing it till I start playing, and who knows, probably even after I start playing.

I am the inspiration for creating myself. I am of course limited by lack of hair options! More crazy long hair needed!

This particular character to be honest.... -points to his avatar- is a bit of a George R.R. Martin reference and is inspired by his work. His name is "Stark" and the basic concept is that he is essentially the stereotypical "honorable nobleman". And he'll probably see a couple more iterations before I'm finished with him, to be honest, as I can always find something to tinker and tweak before launch. And before anyone says anything, no he isn't old, he's actually fairly young, and the white hair he has is something that he was born with.

Hm... Daedhe, my avatar, pretty much is the only character I've created so far, apart from some playing around in the character creator.... and I was not influenced by it in any way, because I've been visualizing her ever since I learned of the city elves... and that was quite some time before the CC was even announced to be a downloadable tool...

I was mostly inspired by the videos of the city elf - origin... I don't know why, but everything just fell into place while I was watching them... my PCs face... her character... her voice... her movements... her story, her motivations, skills, humor... everything..

And then I just began drawing her, and she evolved, and was just as all my usual characters influenced by the same things, the music I hear, the books and comics I read, the movies I see... my art is influenced by pretty much anything, directly or indirectly.

In the character creator I based her whole look on this predesign I did of her, and the tatoo and the braids of this hairstyle also have their own meanings... I can easily see Daedhe getting the tatoo in  an earlier age in honor of the Dalish, maybe after meeting one who visited the city... or I see Shianni and her passing some time, braiding each others hair, thus leading to this style I chose, and it's a wonderful hint to their friendship and solidarity... :)

Heh... but I still find it a bit unusual to see her now in the 3D-modeled, CC-version, after drawing her so many times..

I usually think of the charecters motivation or story, then make a face to fit that motivation/story :)

EDIT: My avatar for instance is supposed to be motivated by lust for power, and she's a bit arrogant and witty, she thinks she knows best.

Are you basing him on Eddard Stark? If so he's my favourite character in the series <3

forgot that I didn't realy mention any of the personalities except for my core three. Their looks, by the way, are also fairly the same. There are some notable differences (no face tattoos for one), but they keep their general looks.

For the ones mentioned (except for Rowan and Rivie, obviously), I just tried to think of a personality that suited the general look that I ended up with. Plus I also re-used a few ideas I'd had before but hadn't been able to try yet.

It's realy interesting to see what's going on behind all these characters and how they were "born."

Inspiration.

To start with, fantasy, including movies, literature, and computer games, etc is a life long affair for me.

I have read reams of fantasy, and have played many CRPGs, such as Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion,
and also, The Baulder's Gate Series, Icewind Dale, and the NWN group, among others.

It could be said that my characters are derived from bits of all those, plus my own wandering mind.

Although I have created several characters for DA:O, there may only be time for me to play two or three of them through the entire game.  The plan is, however, to attempt to play all the Origins, stories.

Focus in DA:O will more than likely be on Alejandra, my human female warrior, and Frank'l, my human male mage.

I also created a couple elves, to upload from the CC.  Merlot, named after dark red wine, and Chardonnay, named after the fruity, or buttery flavored white wine.

However, Chardonnay, my "cute" little elf with pointed ears, and a blonde pony-tail (the color of Chardonnay, of course)  was prevented from being uploaded onto the forums, due to profanity, lol.

Alejandra,

Image IPB

is symbolic of all the warriors I have played in games past, to include an heroic character, Thora, from Arena, among others.

Frank'l,

Image IPB

who's namesakes have adventured in most of the games listed above, will begin adventure anew in DA:O, and is currently preparing himself for something called "The Harrowing."

Usually all my created characters are inspired from my written characters of a story I'm writing. And those characters in fact are based on some other sources. My main character Philip aka the Falmung is based on a tougher looking version of myself. He is a sci fi Jedi like warrior with fighting stances like Siegfried from Soul Calibur and a similar sword. Philip was first created in Soul Calibur IV. The standards of his looks have been based on how he looked on that game.

One of my mages Aria is based on a AI girl from dothack the videogame called Aura. As for the rest of my characters they were created randomly with a personality in mind.

All of this characters are well though first before going to the making stage. Falmung is a heavy wielding sword warrior while Aria is a mage that spends most of her time floating in the air. If you take a look at the pictures section of my profile you can see a brief story intro for each one.

Rose (as seen in my avatar image) was inspired by one of the pictures in Icewind Dale. Since that picture was full bodyshot however, creative license has been invoked for the facial features.

Rose as a character has been slowly brewing as a concept for Sword & Sorcery roleplay. I have taken tidbits of Conan, Dungeons & Dragons and even Exalted aswell as the 13th Warrior Soundtrack and Manowar songs and incorporated them into her personality.

EDIT: As for the name, it is supposed to be a pun. I find it strangely amusing to think of a Sword and Board fighter running into close combat with big nasty monsters and having the name Rose.
