what do you think the new combat will be?Personally i like rpg myself and hope they dont take the ME2 route and turn DA2 into a action game. That would be like buying cod and it be a shooter just to buy cod2 and it be a rpg.Personally i hate it when they change genres mid series i hope they build on the rpg elemnts and make them deeper in DA2.
Action or rpg?

Loved the battle system, and Awakening made it even better. It'd be a shame if they swapped it for a more Mass Effect like one.

RPG definitely, it's what made DA:O unique.

RPG.
They'll develop and try to make it better but it seems highly unlikely to me that they would change the entire genre of the game. Its not reasonable for people to speculate a genre-shift based on a few lines indicating they want to make it more dynamic or action-packed.

If DA2 is more Mass Effect like than DA:Origins then I've made a promise to myself that I won't buy, simply out of my love and admiration for the first DA game.
At this moment in time I'm even more thankful for the upcoming Two Worlds II, which is looking like a proper RPG game. (not that DA2 won't turn out to be I'm sure. Well, sure-ish.)

.... no, DA1 was not "unique" because it was an RPG, it was because as an RPG it has origins that really mattered, and now that is gone
anyway, I am already shocked by Bioware's decision to tear out the most important and unique aspect of DA1 and also the option to play as anything else than human, but if they go even with combat as far as with ME2 in which further RPG elements were massacred, then I will lose faith in DA2 entirely

Ladies and gentlemen, why so much fuss? As you know, we are dumbing down for the masses, RPG elements come second. The emphasis of our business plan for DA:O 2 lies in targeting as many casual players and console action-oriented players as possible. It is more important how your characters swing their shiny heavy swords with negligent elegance and chop off heads and limbs, how spells explode all over the screen, all in a brand new superb cool engine. You will even be able to see your character's reflection on a sword's blade! ME2 showed us the right path to walk along, we have left our old Bioware fans along that way but we have brought in twice as many mainstream console teen fans. They are a more perspective target group, you know. We can feed them with superb cool DLC content, like Darkspawn Chronicles – so much action, so much excitement, you had a chance to play for bad-to-the-bone guys! I love to see our new fans' faces when we announce such a new content. They look so happy, so ingenuous as they beg their parents for a few bucks to get to the new gameplay experience!

They should just make it a fighting game and call it dragon age arena and get it over with. It would be perfect console fodder.

I wouldn't mind action. As long as the inventory, state, and ability systems stay the same.

We hardly have enough information to make any assumptions on what type of game it would be.
All we really know is that it will have a new combat system, that doesn't mean the combat will be put in the forefront. Some of the BioWare employees that post here have already said that they aren't straying to far from the gameplay of Origins.
Wait and see I guess...

I prefer the rpg style combat.
That's what I loved in DA:O and that's what I expect in DA2. They can can improve it as much as they like, as long as they stay true to what came before.

Definetly RPG.
The combat system was allright for me, I want some more deeper conversations, more romancing options etc.

Was the origins really that great? It was only for the first 45 minutes of the game.joriandrake wrote...

To be honest,DA:O was not very unique (we have seen RPGs before) but it was a very well executed and one of the best of it's kind.
I think you should be more optimistic

I would rather have something thats more actiony than what ended up being DAO's combat system, but not pure action with no regard to stats or whatnot.

It has to be rpg, I hope so anyway, actions are good but rpgs are wonderful.

gosh...
DAO was critically acclaimed because in sea of today modern console trash Action Games with RPG elemets it brought back classic rpg style
and while console games need ******-turbo-ultra-hyper-badass-flying action to makes kids happy, anyone will agree that DAO was way above that, and it provided more mature and tactical combat game and i think sales of it showed that at least twice as many people loved it more than ME2 and likes of it...
and THAT plus great characters, mature options, good combat system and nice visuals made it BEST GAME of the year (actually in quite few recent years)
and if anyone looks at critics, fans, reviews, scores and everything - noone with half brain intact wouldn't go to change it to something different
word to bioware if there is anyone listening reading caring whatever
- improve on existing base, dont change it to something else
and p.s.
why the hell developer have need to name the character. DAO worked well without it, it gives more freedom, nobody needs another Shepard, he is fine in his own franchise
as i said on another topic Hawke and his description sounds like some lame crap from JRPGs

The more i learn about this game, the more it sounds like an action game rather then an rpg.
