So we all know that DA2 will have a new visual style that will apparently try to be closer to the art. What does that mean though- cel shading?

Check out this article: http://pc.gamespy.co.../1104705p1.html

Now then, the handful of details publisher Electronic Arts
made available: Despite the sequel-ready ending to Dragon Age: Origins,
Dragon Age II will feature an all-new adventure in an all new realm.
And that realm will be portrayed in an entirely new, Samurai Jack-like
visual style with updated graphics.

WHAT? Does this mean the anime movie is tying in REALLY closely to the game now? Or was the Samurai Jack reference conjecture on Gamespy's part?

I personally can't stand cel-shading and after the good graphics of Origins (PC), I couldn't deal with an anime inspired Dragon Age that draws from this:

Really, BioWare? Can some BioWare person clear this up?

I think the anime will look like the DA journeys trailer.

Conjecture. What we've seen so far is concept art. It may have absolutely nothing to do with what the game will look like. Just look at DA:O's concept art.

It's just extrapolation on their part.

It has to be.

I liked Samurai Jack, it was unique.

If this means we can jump around now and fight even on the roof I am all for it, afterall, Bioware games lack the option to fly/swim/climb/jump usually, and that is sad in their recent, newest 3D games where there is nothing to stop them from implementing these. (see other games like DDO or Divinity 2)

Also, Samurai Jack isn't anime.

Just sayin'.

Yeah it looks like conjecture to me. He's taking the art style of the concept art and assuming the game will look like it, which almost never happens.

um, you can call it western-style anime, it clearly has more in common with anime than your average american cartoons (but then again, most recent cartoons in the last 10 years look more and more like japanese anime)

Means nothing.

That was the writer, not a Bioware quote, and it looked like they were just extrapolating from concept art.

I actually didn't mind Samurai Jack either- but what the fruit does that style have to do with Dragon Age? My whole issue with this visual style shenanigans is that they established a certain realistic style in Origins. To me at least if they go for a cel-shaded or overly artistic stylized look, its akin to saying "Yeah, our engine is too old already and we give up." Whats the reason for such a shift? The console gamers complaining that the game looked bad?

I just want Dragon Age to still look like Dragon Age and not some entirely new beast.

The only similarity Samurai Jack had with anime was that it starred a samurai, and it used a lot of storytelling elements borrowed from samurai movies (which were in turn borrowed from westerns).

Visually, it didn't look a thing like an anime, it looked like Dexter's Lab.

umm not really, but even Dexter's Lab was influenced by animes already, most of the stuff CN came up with in the last 10-15 years is

I hope it looks nothing like "Samurai Jack" or Borderlands. Cel-shaded graphics make we want to vomit in my own mouth.

If they are going for that feel with the art style and colours, then I am all for it. I do see the samurai Jack in the concept art, for sure.

It's not like they'd make the models TOR standard, lol.

as said: aslong it means they are going to implement movements like jumping/swimming/climbing and maybe even flying as you see in Samurai Jack I will even be happy about it

it is just pure scandal that Bioware games (except Jade Empire to an extent) STILL do not make these possible despite making 3D games since years!

Anime looks all the same, eh? Aside from that not being true, it's not the art style that is "typically
anime" here.
Genndy takes more than a bland, supposedly typical anime look, he's influenced very much by Asian directing styles. Samurai Jack is the ultimate homage to those kinds of cuts, choreography and story-telling you'd see in older Asian movies. So yeah, it has a darn lot more in common with anime than your average Western animation.

As to the topic, I'd say they just theorise. There's not even a hunch of a Samurai Jack look in those artworks, except for one looking cel-shaded. But then they could say that DA2 is going to look like killer7 or Okami.

I dont really think the end product will look like those artworks, still, I think they are awful for DA if you ask me... They doesnt get along with the realistic style the first game established. If the artistic direction goes to cel-shade or other cartoony style like that... I dont think I'll be getting it :(

It would almost be like when Ubisoft switch styles on the Prince of Persia franchise, you know when they had the new hero? I think a different style to tell the story would be interesting especially if its a prequel give the game a story telling look.

And also think about it the Zelda games have used different styles are well in the games never a bad thing.

I'm really hoping they're basing that off of the concept art.

I liked the DA:O visuals personally. If they were much higher, I wouldn't be able to play the game. (In other words, I'm hoping that if they do improve the visuals majorly, that the lower settings look as good as the higher settings in Origins at least, and that they won't make many of us with outdated PCs unable to play the game.)

Hehehehe... *runs away to doodle South Park versions of Dragon Age characters*

I'm just curious how different this game will look compared to Origins. I'm all for improving the graphics and making the game feel more closely linked to the art, I just want to know that it still feels like Dragon Age and not some bizaree looking stylized cel shaded game.
