DA2 is also going to have fewer party member slots then DA:O.

That or a pre-made party that you can't switch out.

What I believe is that you won't be able to directly control your party members or change their equipment. There will also be no tactics system.

The irony is that a system like that would allow for much more squad/party interaction, but everyone will revert to whining about fewer characters anyway.

I think fewer party members wouldn't be such a bad thing...if they get more dialogue/party banters/romances with depth.
ME2 had too much squadmates imo!

Calling something after a vague description and only 1 day after being announced.

I would not listen to this guy.

And I'll bet that there'll be more companions than there were in DA:O. I think they'll be less fleshed out and customizable, but I think the companion list will be increased since the story takes place across a decade. I wouldn't mind if they lowered the numbers though, so long as they kept those characters well fleshed out, with deeper and more meaningful interactions than a two second romance scene and one loyalty quest.

I actually just came up with a theory about the new squad members. I think that there will be more squad members that  you will recruit but you wont get them all at around the same ingame time. Meaning the game takes 10 years in game time to complete so who isn't to say that you lose some squad members during those 10 years due to deaths or whatnot but gain more as time passes.

Just an idea. What do you all think of it.

Number of companions and party slots are different. You might meet serveral companions over 10 years. However I'm betting bioware is going to reduce party size or during certain time frames you will be stuck with a certain designed party.

So, the thinking here seems to be that: Either there will be fewer companions or a pre-set party (I'm thinking people are not happy?) or MORE companions, but less well developed (I'm thinking people are .. erm .. not happy?)

I guess if the story happens over a decade, it would make sense for there to be more companions than in Origins. I'm okay with this. I was okay with ME2's style. Okay it kind of sacrificed depth for breadth to a certain extent, but come on - Mordin has to rate as a classic character across the trilogy, regardless of how much 'deeper' Ash or Kaiden were. x

More companions, but less companions available at any given time would make sense story-wise. I can't see 12 people sticking with the same dude for 10 years unless there's something along the lines of a demonic pact involved.

it'll be sad to see favorite companions go over the years, but getting new ones will be cool as well. i missed the old origins companions, but i liked finding the new ones in awakening.

I like that idea - people coming into your life and then leaving as the years progress, to be replaced by others. With just a few loyal friends staying the course. That sounds right, somehow.

ME2, seemingly everyones favourite beating post over here, had six more squad members on the team than its predecessor, and each of them had more lines of dialogue separately than any one squad member did in ME1 despite being a "dumbed down shooter with no RPG elements".

So if not old ME2, then what are you basing this on? Just the "omfg bioware failz" instinct a lot of you have going on? I mean, it may very well be true, but I don't see how on earth anyone could come to any sort of conclusion regarding this with the, like, two sentences of information we have so far.

Wild speculation! Why would they change the mechanics so much when the first game sold so well? It makes no sense and all you guys thinking they will? You should wait until we actually know something, no need to assume things without proof.

No beating of ME2 here. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Also loved Dragon Age. Mordin Solus, Garrus Vakarian and Leliana are three of the best CRPG companions ever. Think both games could learn from each other, and potentially make each game even better as a result. For me, its a win win. DA2 - more of the same traditional RPG gameplay, great. A bit more stylised and cinematic like ME2, also great. I win!
