Seriously how long is the time line for the first Mass Effect game. A couple of months time pass as your hunting down Saren, half a year max. Then your apparently dead for almost two years, and the group is disbanded. You had their loyalty apparently, but you knew many of them for less than a year or so. I didnt like how they portrayed the old characters in ME2, except for Wrex. Ashley and Kaidan are total morons, and Liara is like a fly that has been squished and pushed out of the way. I hope they really give us something better for old romances come ME3, or at least even a bigger game than ME2 by quite a bit.

Bioware really should've made this piece of dialogue mandatory to Liara's mission.

Exactly! Even the other 'Investigate' option ends that conversation before you get a chance to hear that bit. I reloaded my Liara romance character after doing that conversation, because I knew it was there but I didn't get it the first time, and the whole thing makes alot more sense after hearing it. Also, that Shepard looks exactly like the one I romanced Liara with.

I was really looking forward to finding Ashley and hooking up with her as soon as possible in ME2 (I wasn't aware yet that she's not available as a squaddie in this game). So I finally find her on Horizon... and she goes all crazy. I was literally quite "WTF?" at that point.

Basically, she lets her hate for Cerberus among other things to take precedence over the seriousness of the situation and Shepard's - demonstrably good - judgement and intentions. Without so much as giving Shep a chance despite him just having saved her life once again. It actually reminded me a lot of a few conversations with a former (former because of said conversations) real life friend, except no lives were at stake in that case ;) Anyway, gone for two years and the first thing I do is trying to find Ashley and then when I do I save her, and she pulls that crap on me. Sheesh.

And Tali, then. She's sweet, and despite her hate for Cerberus she overcomes that due to her loyalty for Shepard. She's there when Shep needs her, unlike Ashley. And I must admit, I was curious if I'd get to see her face :) Hehe.
So, as much as the idea of staying loyal to Ashley was in my heart (so to speak), her actions were such a big letdown. I am thinking of making a separate save where I did stay loyal, but I don't know if it's worth it. I tend to play my characters based on how I think I'd act if I was really in that situation, and I can say that getting punched in the gut like that by her would've earned her no fondness from me, email apology or no. I saw the "romance" video if you stay loyal to her, and while it was touching, her actions just sour it up so bad.

Oh well. Time will tell. Plenty to go 'til ME3 comes around, so plenty of time to play with different relationship options if I choose to (or, could just edit savegames I guess!).

The whole "I haven't trusted anyone enough for that" conversation of Tali's was probably my favorite game dialogue ever. On my first character I got completely swept up in it and ended up starting the romance accidentally, even though I'd intended to stay loyal to Ashley. I reloaded after and told her I'm not interested, but doing so almost ruined the rest of that playthrough for me. The main reason my Liara character was female was because I couldn't bring myself to have that conversation again.

See, when you get past all the hype surrounding Tali, she's still quite likeable, ain't she?  :V

I didn't even know about the 0.25 millon post thread at the time, that took me quite by surprise, and it's not even the first, I mean I like her but, damn...

It was a great peace of dialogue, yeah - I too didn't expect the romance to pop up at that time, so it happened half by accident. Somehow, the whole relationship and romance with her seems much more tight-knit than the others, even dismissing Tali already being familiar from ME1. Her "defense mechanism" is so cute, in the various intimate conversations. Also I suppose it is in part that her willingness to overcome the obvious dangers of the affair to heed her emotions shows their depth. But she was my constant companion even in ME1 as soon as she joined my team. Her and Ashley. Which sort of makes the whole thing complicated in ME2... haha. I really need to make that character with no ME1 romance to have a "clear conscience" option in ME2. Silly that a game can make you feel so bad about choices you make! But, then that's just a sign of it being a great game.

By the way, I only started visiting the forums and stuff after finishing both of the games, and it's indeed obvious I'm not the only one taking by Tali for various reasons :D

At the end of the email, after completing the horizon mission, Kaidan had said something like "...maybe after everything settles down...I don't know..." which isn't a full on "you suck, I'm out", although it did seem like it on horizon.

For me, staying loyal is a mixture of curiosity of what can happen in ME3 and a lack of interest in ME2 LIs for femsheps.

ME1 LIs had to endure two years of coming to terms with Shepard's death. From my point of view, Shepard should wait two years to honour and respect that, and then feel free to move on if no further progress is made with the ME1 relationship. (Unless Shepard was just using the ME1 LI... But that's hardly heroic, and to my mind Shep should always exemplify the Big Damn Hero archetype.)

Personally, my Shepard still loves Kaidan, but she also respects that he's in a different place in his life now than he was when they first served together. She's giving him time to work it out, hoping that he'll choose to give their relationship another chance, but she respects him enough that she'll accept his decision if he decides not to do so.  (She did find the possibility of relationships with Garrus or Thane intriguing, but didn't follow them up because she wished to be faithful to Kaidan.  As for Jacob, I pretend that she doesn't act the way she does when they talk...)

Speaking not for Shep, but for myself...  If there's no chance to reignite the love in ME3, I will rant and rage, and possibly join the ranks of Kaidan fangirls besieging Bioware HQ. Guess I'm just not as mature as Shep! :-D

That video does show some more of Liara's feelings, and I HAD missed some of it.  Makes me feel a little bad for ditching her!  ;)
