DA2- a completely new game.

It's time to start a brand new game with new characters and new stories. I don't know if people realized this, but Dragon Age is simply a time period. It does not, in any way, shape, or form, implicate a Blight, Grey Wardens, or anything that has to do in Origins. For all we know, you could be caught in the middle of a political struggle for power (which is possible I think), without ever touching a hint of darkspawn or archdemon.
I like where Bioware is going with this. They seem to have created a template to work with (the lore, the setting, the background) and then make their games after that. The only problem I see is that they called it Dragon Age 2, which may seem like a sequel. But from the sounds of it, it doesn't really have much to do with the first one. Had I been them, I'd call it Dragon Age: Rise (idk, something like that).
The point is, don't expect a sequel. It's probably going to be a new game.

Based on my ending, I can already come up with a few questions. What happens to Morrigan and the child? I vowed to find her like 3 times at the end of the game. Where does Alistair go? he says that it isn't the last that I will see of him. What about Sten? He says that he will be back when my hero needs him. Etc.
The problem isn't that it needs to be a sequel, the problem is that you spent 60-70+ hours building relationships and forging the world through your decisions, and recieve an ending that is very open to interpretation and one that even suggests a full blown sequel...only to find that you will potentially never see or hear from your Warden or his companions again. You can't blame people for being a little disappointed. Sure, you know everyone's back story - but who knows what the future for everyone may bring. Either we'll be finding out in a short DLC or we may never know.
Obviously the DA series can't continue on with the same people always...but the journey did not yet feel finished for everyone in DAO.

The issue is that a lot of the endings in DAO leave a lot of things still open. If the Warden makes the ultimate sacrifice, then sure, things come together nicely. But killing the archedemon and then getting 2-3 final lines from each character really doesn't wrap up their story.

Exactly- if you did the US, then bravo your Warden's story is over. For the rest of us, especially if you romanced Morrigan, the story is far from over. And all we get for it in Awakening is that the Warden mysteriously "vanishes."
Supposedly we'll have more Origins DLC, so maybe that will tie up loose ends. But as of now, given what we know, it sure seems like the Warden is simply being given the KOTOR2 treatment of unresolved plots.

I am still playing the game (due to carpel tunnel) and had no clue about the child.
I am wondering myself how Bioware would continue the game without the Wardens.
Thou I guess you could play a Templar, hunting down Mages. Thou that might get boring really fast. And they have done Darkspawn side, where you play as the monster. So I am not sure.
I will be watching it thou!

Oh guys, you realize there is half a year left of DLC so something might cover that up.
I mean there's always hope, right?
Just how many DLCs are you expecting Bioware to crank out?

When you take into account these factors:
a) Dragon Age Origins was based in a small section of the world they created aka Ferelden. And only tells a small part of the history of that place (here and now).
c) That Leliana's Song (DLC) give you some more background into the Orlasisian mindset.
d) That BioWare created a whole world with a vast amount untapped history and stories.
I would expect a company that has gone to such lengths to create a LIVING world with such a vast breath to tap into fully and give the fans/paying customers what was promised. A full rich world that we can explored and truely experanced.
If I wanted to travel to say Nevarra (the next closest country to Orlais) or to Par Vollen (at the top of the map on page 346 of the Collector's Edition guild for DAO), I should be able to. Why create that much of a world if your not going to use it???? This coming from a 31 year pen & paper RPGer.

Why can't the Warden simply never find Morrigan again, and the Old God Child's story picks up in another Dragon Age game set 20 or so years after Origins with the OGB as a companion or the protagonist?
The biggest thing a Gray Warden can do is slay the Archdemon, its what they are created for. After DA:O the Warden's greatest victory is behind him/her. I would rather play with the impact of the choices my character made through a new hero experiencing the world I defined in the previous game rather than the character him/herself

Retour en haut
