It is a Sword staff it was quite common in the Norse region.
Or at least it looks like a stylised version of it and it makes more sense then a Asian weapon.

As long as battle scenes show polearms, I'll be happy.

Seeing that that note said "fight like a Spartan", I bet there will be more than a few cutscenes that show battles like this.
