The "Yeah well... You can imagine the tone of voice when the character isn't voiced!" point is moot, because the characters react to it only one way no matter what.

Say you had an option to say "I hate you!" to someone, but you're imagining that your character is saying it sarcastically. Would that change the reaction you'd get?

well maybe the NPC didn't understand the sarcastic undertone

And now reflecting on the bolded part above, tell me how imagination/creativity into your character is a moot point, when that is what brings the main RPG experience.

But thats the thing. It doesn't bring anything. The characters react as if you said it a certain way regardless, so it may as well be voiced.

You're missing my point, as the one controlling the character we want to immerse ourselves into that character, we want to choose their choices in what we percieve their tone could be in our minds. A VO doesn't do that and 'forces' what kind of tone the dialogue choice is.
And as social interaction goes, we can't assume what the counterpart speaker, the NPC, is going to say, we can't change their dialogue because we want to, if respond a firm negative "no" and the NPC walks away in a neutral level/tone, I can suspect that the NPC doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore or that the NPC jsut accepts it.
And going back to VO for the PC, the VO dominates the PC not you, it's the VO's PC not the player's PC.

In Baldur's Gate, and NWN you were able to chose your race and costumize your looks/alignment/skills and abilities somewhat.

I would trade a voiceover for having multiple races again any second without regret.

Voice over is better. It's probably the future of video games. Ahem...excuse me if I misheard....but weren't people complaining about no voice over when dragon age came out, since mass effect contained it. Yes?

Ahhh now I wan't here for that
But look at this way, you start a franchise without VO, wouldn't it make sense to keep going with this instead of drastically changing it? It's like going to ME2 without VO

Dragon Age is already like ME. They are made from the same company, so of course. Taking a few parts from one of the most succesful games and putting it in to Dragon Age....is great in my book.

Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda are made frm the same company, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't like Link's only action be jumping on enemies to kill them and smashing blocks with his head

With the exception of races, you can still do all that.

This is important. Misunderstandings happen, but they shouldn't ever happen inside your own head.

Having an NPC misinterpret what you said is a far lesser evil than having you, the player, not understand what your character is saying because you didn't get to choose it and aren't privy to the motives behind it.

Yes, some people were.

Those people were wrong.

You have a good argument but a bad example......these games were whole generations apart, sugar.

I am sure noone that complained about the lack of voiceover would seriously trade it in for losing multiple race choices and origin stories

You really think that's the reason why there is only on race and origin.....:)

I am close to say that I will rather play some other RPG that has multiple races than play a restricting DA2

Hey..... Mass Effect voice acting wasn't bad! It was just kinda silly to hear a black shepard sound white. That's like the only thing, you big silly

I couldn't stand just being there like a mute and having other speak for me in DA. Glad your getting the voicing done for this one.

Good to hear that he is voiced. I want either everything spoken voiced, or nothing voiced. The disconnect between the silent protagonists dialogue and the spoken NPC lines just never sat right with me. I felt... stifled. Like my character was some psychic card-board cutout who projected his words directly into the minds of others while maintaining a completely blank facial expression.

[Spoiler for those who haven't finished Dragon Age:Origins, don't read.]

I like the idea of a VO and actual reactions. I remember seeing my Grey Warden telling Loghain to be executed, then going ahead and decapitating him and having the same expression all along, with no sound of rage or any other emotion.
[Spoiler end.]

And they are not trading other races for this feature, it's simply a bonus they put in to enhance the storytelling, as the story is based on a human character. This is a rather major thing as people are saying, and I'm sure BioWare as a good reason to do it. In return we can expect a more focused and deep story.
This is my opinion.

Seriously though, am I the only one who found it kind of creepy that you could just be emotionless the whole game, click a line, and instantly have the person reacting in a very strange way? It felt like I was some sick body-snatcher manipulating people with my silent dialogue. The more I thought about it this way, the creepier it got. Scarier than any Lovecraftian horror.

I'm happy for a VO....I liked the silent protagonist too, but it was sorta freaky when you learn about the diaster at Ostagar or you unearth some major tragedy...

and the PC just has that blank face look.....

A more focused story is often a less flexible story.

Regarding your spoiler, I really liked the lack of facial expression on some of my PCs, and found it didn't suit others.  As such, unless we have dynamic cutscenes that respond to some input of ours to produce the appropriate facial expressions, those scenes are guaranteed to annoy some players.

The only equitable solution is not to have them.

VO is not required for facial expressions, you can have no VO and still have a surprised/sad/angry look on your character's face

HA! :D
The only equitable solution is to accept that not everyone is going to be happy with any individual game.
