She did do a fantastic job as Lightning. I liked the guy that did Snow, also. Not so much snow himself. He was kind of back and forth with me. But the voice actor was great.

Meh. I really did get used to not having a fully voiced character; it was different and allowed for a deeper level of immersion, in a way. I mean, I like fully voiced Shepard, but I liked little-quips-during-combat-and/or-detecting-traps-only Warden more.

Mark Meer was cool in Mass Effect (never played the female there) but both those guys, him and the female Shepa Hawke voices, i mean commander Shepard voices are THE ONLY REASON we cannot play as Turian, Salarian, Volus, Krogan, Council Races, non Council Races...

VA Hawke, male and female, will be the ONLY REASON for us not to be allowed to play as Dwarf, Elf, etc.. (because obviously it would be financially impractical to VA all possible playable races so kill the playable races).

And there goes Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights legacy down the drain.

I know your joking, but I actually do mute the sound and use the closed caption when I'm staying up to play and my husband has gone to bed.  The game system is in a little room next to the bedroom. It's not as much fun.

Voice over is better. It's probably the future of video games. Ahem...excuse me if I misheard....but weren't people complaining about no voice over when dragon age came out, since mass effect contained it. Yes?

What makes you think it's the same people complaining now?

just one question ... how can you like something (silent Warder) more then something that doesnt even exist yet (voiced Hawke) ... its all asumptions and crowd hysteria based on speculations

I think its because for the voice acting to be enabled they had to cut race choices and there's always the possibility of the voice not fitting the character I intend to make in every playthrough.

Uhhhh we like the silent Wardens because they were our characters and we know them over Hawke who we don't even know who s/he is yet except some refugee that becomes champion of Kirkwall

Huh? If someone tried ME and didn't like it, can't he conclude that he probably won't like the approach any better in DA2 than he did in ME?

They can flush the Neverwinter Nights one down.  No more parties?  What were they thinking.

Pretty sure he is joking. You would have to be... special... to completely ignore mass effect being the story of humanity and Shepard.

I think she was getting at that the entire central part of the protagonist in the ME games was being:

1. The first human spectre

2. Saving humans from the Collectors.

There are alot more reasons than just the VOs why we were humans in ME.  Plot reasons.  Like being human was a central part of the entire game.

yea "the choice" ... the question is ... is it better to have 3 smaller trees or 1 very big and robust one with firm base trunk ... ie. what if the initial lack of choice (ie. race) leads to more variety of interesting and deeper choices during the game ... and maybe (just dreaming) the choices that actually matters ... srsly even in Alpha Protocol choices had bigger impact on game then in whole DA so far ...

I think we're a little de-synced here. I'm saying that if someone flat-out doesn't like voiced protagonists, he's not likely to suddenly start liking them in DA2.

Reasons against VO

VO is going to affect replays. In ME replaying the game with a different face was just jarring as you'd still hear the same voice coming from the 'new' character. Also eliminates roleplaying of situations that you do in your head.

Additionally VO limits narrative choice and flexibility because it costs "widgets" to voice different dialogues and options.

Bioware is being somewhat limited by new mainstream standards BUT ~ this is supposed to be an old school experience type of game

Limited choices in dialogue occur when you have VO for main character - you will have a more valid rpg experience if without VO, diverse options which lead to decisions made rather than just choices of x or y for a situation.

Additionally this formula for da has proven more popular than me's in terms of sales so what valid economic reason do they have to throw it away?

When I first heard about the vo in ME I knew I would hate it. The games I played and enjoyed, mostly BioWare's plus Oblivion, Morrowind, did not have vo. I have been converted. I still like the silent game, like dragon age, but I found ME to be a lot of fun and I had no problem seeing myself as Shepard and talking to my LI but then in ME2 she talked to Jacob and I wanted to die of embarrassment.

That would be the only worry I have, that the vo will use a tone that I don't see my character using. Will have to wait and see.

^ leads me to one question for silent "imagination" pc supporters ... how do you ensure, that your imagination gets the right tone of the sentence? i mean the sentence was written by its autor in some tone (sarcastic, suave, cold, angry, ...) and how does your imagination gets it right? so you are not suprised by the npc reaction?

****ing whiners :'), give an opinion on the game when previews start rolling in. Let BioWare do their magic and if you don't like it, go play Bethesda games. I really love this choice and if these Canadians start changing it up,because of some small whining 'fanbase'  I'd be pissed.

I liked her just fine as Liara, and I actually thought her performance in ME2--especially if you get all of Liara's dialogue was very moving.  But Lightning...meh.  Maybe it was the script that made me go WHY LIARA WHY YOU LESS COOL when I heard her VA in FFXIII.

Basically, though, anyone BUT Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale.  Don't get me wrong, I love Hale, and Meer's voice acting improved dramatically in ME2 (though it was still punctuated with moments of lulz).  But they are Sheploo and FemShep now in my mind, and if I hear those voices coming out of Hawke's mouth, it'll be like Invasion of the Bodysnatchers: Thedas Style :alien:

*Is still pulling for Grey DeLisle*

But it's only like that because they railroad the character development.

ME could just as easily have been the story of Saren and the Reaper invasion, with the outcomes slightly different based on what race the PC was and what choices he made (it already accommodates slightly different endings based on different choices).

ME was designed around the humanity angle by choice, not necessity.  It could have easily been a game that allowed greater variety for the players, but they can't voice greater variety, so instead they try to sell this shortcoming as if it's a positive feature.

Liara as FemHawke just like how Bastilla became FemShep? I like this idea, it has weight.

God, if they do this, they'd better let Claudia Black play the female main character in the next series.
