I like it better because I can be a city elf, or a dalish, or a dwarf

****ing whiners :'), give an opinion on the game when previews start rolling in. Let BioWare do their magic and if you don't like it, go play Bethesda games. I really love this choice and if these Canadians start changing it up,because of some small whining 'fanbase' I'd be pissed.
Ah yes, here it comes, that predictable knee-jerk reaction: the whiner label. Here's a news flash, friend. ME2 changed dramatically from ME1. Not just a little, but most was jettisoned and the rest rebuilt. Why the hell wouldn't that dismay the fanbase who liked the game as it was?
If they do the same with Dragon Age, if they radically alter the nature of the game, is it so surprising that people will be displeased?
But don't let me stop the flight of the fanboy, as it gathers on legitimate criticism like a fly on dung.

God, if they do this, they'd better let Claudia Black play the female main character in the next series.
Whoa. Playing as Morrigan. Well, not Morrigan but Morrigan's VA. My brain might just explode from the win.
Off-topic: I still think FemHawke sounds like a porn star.

Say about ME2's companions and story what you will, but don't try to deny improvements made in the gameplay section.
Don't tell me you actually enjoyed getting many silghtly different versions of the same weapons, such as a V or a VI version, then having to convert all of them into omnigel halfway a mission. No siree, I prefer to have weapons that actually each feel unique.

Wait so the whole point of this game is to become a champion?
Yeah, I think. It says in the blurb that you rise from being a refugee to the champion of the land. Though it also says that you're known as the Champion of Kirkwall. So...you start out as the Champion of Kirkwall and work your way up to the rest of the world? Or you work your way up to Champion of Kirkwall?

ME2 had better gameplay. No question. But expressing one's concern's does not equal whining. I regret some of the things Bioware shot out of the space lock in ME2. I might regret some things about DA2.
People voicing their concerns is natural. To those with an ego made up of tissue paper...well, it's threatening, so they start slinging childish insults. No surprise there.

And I'm a super fan of voiced main characters, when there is "something to be had" from it. It works wonderfully with the Gothic and Risen's nameless hero. It works great for Geralt in the Witcher and there lies the problem. They are amazing games but they are action oriented RPG with no tradition in giving us a full wide range of playable races and chars.
If DA2 thinks that they will compete with The Witcher 2 by throwing a voiced main char while eliminating 90% of the replayability that original DA has even considering that DA is very repetitive after 2 or 3 full playthroughs with 100% world explored in each. It is the freshness of a new char, new race, new class that allows me to go through it all again as if it were the first time.
Sometimes, it does it by letting me recreate my favourite epic char and replaying him because that IS me in a virtual digital version. It will really kill this approach to have someone voicing my char with a voice that is not my own.
Now if the dialogue options comes in a stupid circle like in ME with no keyboard shortcut, I'll kill myself for the third time!

thats the point. I don't know because it just ... works. i don't think about it, i don't have to do anything. My character just instantly had a voice and was completely alive.DraCZeQQ wrote...
^ leads me to one question for silent
"imagination" pc supporters ... how do you ensure, that your imagination
gets the right tone of the sentence? i mean the sentence was written by
its autor in some tone (sarcastic, suave, cold, angry, ...) and how
does your imagination gets it right? so you are not suprised by the npc
reaction?
however with Shepard i keep thinking "that's not what i wanted to say" and "stop flirting with jacob dammit!"

I have more faith in Nalia's ability in that respect. (We know Bastila can do it.)

I can see how voice will shorten the game, because it did in ME, and possible decrease replay value since we will only have the one character to choose from. But I actually replayed ME 1 & 2 more times than I have DA because the ME conversations are more realistic. In DA you can essentially say everything that shows up on the list in a long, drawn out conversation that sometimes ends up being circular and repetitive.

I couldn't relate to the main character in Mass Effect at all--because it was voice. Now, if we still get to pick exactly what we say, I can just remove the PC voice from the game and turn on subtitles. If it's that damn wheel where you can only guess, that won't really make a difference. It will still make real roleplaying impossible.
From everything I've read thus far its the wheel with "emotions" to pick from. So we're essentially guessing whatever the hell Hawke will actually say or do, we just pick the tone.
This seriously sucks. It sucks all the life out of RP in the game. Instead of a RPG now we're stuck with an interactive movie. I really, really want to know why BioWare made this change. What triggered this drastic shift in DA? Are we stuck with this for all future possible DA games?
*sigh*

This has been my point from the beginning, and because the issue only ever comes up on the Mass Effect boards I don't find a lot of sympathy there.errant_knight wrote...

But the DA boards tend to lean more in my direction.
Roleplaying requires the ability to have some idea what the character is going to say BEFORE HE SAYS IT.
Roleplaying requires the ability to have some control over how a selected line is delivered.

So you know the difference between, say... "I'd like to get to know you better... [Lustful]" and "I'd like to get to know you better... [Platonic]". That way, when you choose "I want to get to know you better..." you won't be surprised if your femHawke starts laying on a table, ordering a party member to take her right then and there, because it will have said [Lustful] or something in the center when you highlighted it, before choosing.
I just wanted you to be nice to Jacob in ME2! I didn't tell you to be a ****, Shepard! >_<
