So let me get this straight-
Because the lead is voiced and they're thinking about implementing a ME style dialogue system, suddenly its Mass Effect?
You people. Really? Come on now.
Mass Effect has been more successful across the board the DA:O has been, why wouldn't they shift the franchise more in line with what works best?
You think Origins profit margin with it's 9 figure launch budget was anywhere
Uhhhh no. Dragon Age: Origins topped the sales past Mass Effect 2
Yeah, everyone says it but no ones ever dropped a single piece of evidence to support it. Latest information places both titles over the 3 million mark in sales, all be it a bit old for both. Considering ME2 had a much small development budget along side with ME1 it also means a larger net profit which ultimately is what best determines the success of a product from a financial stand point.

well thank god the main character in dragon age wasn't silent. Mine talked quite a lot. And she had a nice voice, exactly the right one and she said things with exactly the intonation i intended.Spear-Thrower wrote...
I'm happy. Silent protagonists are no better than cardboard cutouts.
very unlike Shepard who for some odd reason started to flirt with Jacob against my will

I would've preferred a silent protagonist, but I refuse to be disheartened by this news. I only hope the voice actors are superb, as in Jennifer Hale and not Mark Meer.
You thought Jennifer Hale was superb in ME?

Great... that ruined my hope for a good game.. ugh I just hope the voice acting isn't as crappy as Mass Effect... ugh...
I like the voice acting in ME. i know there were a lot of complaints about Mark Meer, but I liked the tone and sound of it. and I have always like Jennifer Hale. Of course I can think of a lot of male voices I liked better but I was ok with the who they used.
Anyone with an Irish brogue could talk to me all day.
I admit to some concern on voiced characters, though. Sometimes the tone is totally different then I see my character using.

The DA "sales" figures are also based on shipments.Rhjh20 wrote...

It's not 100% accurate, but as close as you're going to get. ME2 was a massive hit.
DA was a surprisingly big hit, yes. This was helped by also being on PS3. But it's not outpacing ME2.

Poor Mark. I thought he did a good job in ME2 but yeah he had some really bad moments in ME1.

Granted she is a marvellous actress, and I thought she was superb in KotOR,but in ME her voice really, really got on my nerves.

Hale is a thorough professional. Big fan here.
If she is in the game I hope she does another NPC like Bastilla or Dynaheir

It also eliminates those awkward scenarios where you feel like your character should be reacting, but instead just stares blankly without so much as a grunt.
Yeah, well, I can't argue that this isn't a good thing. I'm sure you're all completely overreacting. Wait for the previews and then the actual reviews. Saying '"I wont buy it" now is just as stupid as pre-ordering right now...

This is my only problem. I know lots of people liked Mark and I won't disparage him. However, I thought he was a terrible Shepard. So much so he made me laugh when I watched videos of him talk. I found him so unbelievable it wasn’t funny. As long as they have good voice talent. I’m ok with the voiced character.

Shipped is different from sold. Last I heard they reported 1.6 million copies sold. Not sure how much DA:O pushed.
EDIT: Wow these topics move fast.

I hope to jeebus that if it is Hale (who is brilliant) she won't be using her uber-masculine graahh approach that she used in ME. I just could not connect with it.

I like this development. Lack of player character voice acting killed it for me somewhat in the original DA.
