Still, and on topic, I don't know that retreating out of the country is actually retreating so much as it is...well, running away. Which I totally understand, under some circumstances, not so much under others. So we'll see.

And as for Hawke well the five facts thing says he lived in Lothering, from that I can only guess at the time he either wasn't a soldier or was something akin to a town guard. Otherwise he probably would have been at the battle of Ostagar. Of course that's assumeing he ran off BEFORE the attack at Lothering, the facts say he's a surviver maybe he just made it through the battle and said I'm going somewhere safer than this. Don't forget at the time the kingdom was in the middle of a civil war and an invasion from monsters. To the average joe it probably looked like the people "in charge" weren't going to get their act together in time. Hell from what I remember as the Warden 90% of the time people were telling me it was hopless.

I don't know why everyones jumping on this coward bandwagon, if I lived in Lothering I woulda gotten the hell outta there too. In fact as the Warden I did, it was a hopless situation and I had other things to do. I don't know why all those refugees stayed there so long, it wasn't like they had an army to defend them.
I completely agree with that. I don't understand the logic behind calling him a coward. In case people didn't notice, Lothering wasn't exactly teeming with soldiers, their only protection being a handful of Templars. So, obviously, any battle would have been lost before it began.
In my opinion, Hawke was the only one, or at least one in a few, with any real sense. Getting out of there, be it before or during the attack, was the first thing any sensible person should have done.

Yes this is one of the most interesting news... maybe we'll have to take difficult decisions where you won't have well defined good/evil options but all the options have some bad consequence that you have to face later in the game.. something like The Witcher's style

Yeah it sounds like the whole game is going to be taking place on a bigger scale, what with the talk of feeling like a general fighting like a spartan and all that. I wonder if maybe the person you let live or the village you don't will come back to haunt you not just as a small quest but as an army years down the road. A lot can happen in ten years.MaxQuartiroli wrote...

I'm actually quite happy that he ran... If Hawker is going to have some kind of pre-set personality, i want it to be a sensible one, not wishy washy "Let's save the world!" one.
Why would he have fought the Blight? Plenty of jobs elsewhere.
Yeah why would he become Champion of Kirkwall and not just keep running? Cowards don't make great heroes.
Maybe he ran because he only cares about his skin, and not the lives of others? If thats how it is, I dont see him becoming a champion that out of the question.
And anyway, Cowards can make good heroes, and they can make some awesome villains.
I don't mind if they made it for you to choose if your character is a coward or couraged, hero or villain. But if you get such a thing predefined it sucks. In DA:O your hero could be either, it was your choice.
"However, rather than stay and fight the darkspawn menace, Hawke flees Ferelden and heads north"
It wasn't Lothering he was fleeing. Lothering was all ready gone at that point. He fled Ferelden

F the fade, I was hoping I could domesticate a dragon then go find where the hell Morrigan went in DA 2. Cuz at the end of DAO it leaves it wide open for the sequel, of which Awakening did not close (cuz it sucked). My warden commander was legit, and I MISS MY DOG!!

That supports what I was thinking, if he was at Lothering when it fell and survived than I'm not surprised he left the country.Aurelet wrote...

And then the blight catches up with him in Kirkwell(spillover from Ferelden) and He rises to the occasion... or not. They did say you get to choose his past and regrets.

As the Grey Warden from Dragon Age: Origins was fighting darkspawn, Hawke was
living in Lothering. Fans will remember that the small village was raided and
destroyed (an event that occurred off-screen in Origins), and Hawke was one
of the survivors. However, rather than stay and fight the darkspawn menace,
Hawke flees Ferelden and heads north.*
Now I remember this Hawke!

So... I'm going with the premise that the Templars/Chantry know that the place is screwed and order everyone out?
That'd make more sense that ran like a dog with a tail between your legs....

Let's see, One of the single longest threads predating Dragons Age Origins, (not the abort_on which followed it) was about the romance aspect.
How very hard would it have been for Bioware to simply say, (about Romance) we know you like it, (punk kids notwithstanding) and OF COURSE it will be a meaningful part of DA2?, but no....what we DO get is an "art shot" of a pencil thin "guy"? who better be a mage "cuz he sure ain't swing no sword" with those arms.
I Personally am disappointed if this stands, first no "hot Girl on Girl action in ME2, then the fun that (I avoided!!!) in Awakenings and mmmmm Darkwhatever (Kill those guys you liked!!!!!) dlc and now THIS!!!!!
Did someone from some rival company get hired to destroy Bioware's Reputation??? and where is Minsc to Save me now? I miss the space hamster too.
Does fox news fill every one with such fear??? I am SO greatful that at least, I can keep replaying DA:O forever with (Nexus mods!!!) and they can't take that away from me.....I can ONLY HOPE that Bioware will read the "Core" fan Base and NOT abandon us Further.
Please note I am legally blind and not from the US and this is my first time with the English language so I appologize in advance for any grammatical/syntax/spelling errors.

On top of all that, the "10-Year-Span" just leave so much to happen. For instance, in Baldur's Gate, such a long time passed over the course of the Character's Story that relationship wise you were not only able to meet a LI, but foster the relationship, watch it grow, *Really* watch the person grow and mature through the Romance, and even be there when she tells you, "Oh, by the by, I'm pregnant." But not in that less than Joyful "Morrigan" way. With this, we might even get a portion of the Story where Hawke has a Family, and not just companions.
It seems like with DA2 we're really going to get a sense of "Living" Hawke's Life; had DA been a continuous Trilogy ala Mass Effect it would have been the same; now, however, we get that Epic Timeline feel in a stand-alone Title, which is Awesome to me because than people who come to Live through and Love thier respective Hawke character won't have to wait Years for Development to find out, "What happens Next," Bonus. Man, I really want to play this game. Now! Don't you hate it when you need a Time Machine but none are around...(grumbles)
