Planescape: Torment (male only, human only, no name at all! And it's still Bioware's best game ever!)?

Planescape: Torment is a Black Isle Studios game (or a Chris Avellone game . . . who is with Obsidian Entertainment)--not Bioware. Many of the key members of Black Isle Studios are currently with Obsidian Entertainment.

Sounds great. Like the idea of the game being more about establishing your own story rather than just heading towards a BBEG. Only minor concern is that that reminds me of the mediocre Fable II, but this is bound to be amazing.

i would have thought the fantasy rpg crowd are the most likely to just wait for more information to come out and not rely on reviews. and now it seems a good portion of players on this forum wont even wait until they decide they know everything about the game...but i suppose to each his own.

well I think if people heard more it woudnt matter, everything that people are upset about is supposed to be the improvments of the game

hmm I prefer the style of Mass Effect where you are Sheppard so this could be a good approach. I do hope/wish most of the characters from DA:O return. kinda will miss the origin stories but this sounds like it will have some great potential.

At first I was disappointed to hear about the set character Hawke. But the more I think about what improvments Bioware has made in terms of battle systems, graphics, and story line, ten years...I hope DA:O2 is three times longer than DA:O, the more exicted I get. I cant wait for my GI mag. to get here. Also curios to see your fully voiced character. Hope its better than Mass Effect, ME sounds like a monotone.

If the voice over is the same as Liliana's song than I'm happy about the change. It always seemed odd that the NPCs did all the talking while I used text.. lost the emersion somewhat.

Ok, you are correct. Still doesn't really mean anything; my point is that the "fans" screaming bloody murder about minor changes of course never played any of those games, since it would cause them to explode with rage.

If I would have liked to play Mass Effect I would have bought it.

Absolutely no need for Dragon Effect.

If you have decided this early that you don't like the game, then your loss.

Not more than the loss of those who have already decided that they like it.

Well now instead of him being my character he's Bioware's and really that's okay with me, as long as I'll still be able to make some decisions and not all good vs evil but more in the gray. It's sounding a little like mass effect no need to call it "dragon Effect" though XD. I'm really hoping the 'faster' battle system isn't a whole new one but more an improved upon one from the first game.

so dwarves and elves can't be champions in the free marches? i recall things working differently in redcliffe. and is the concept art for hawke really appropriate? he sounds like a coward and a deserter to me, not a duncan-on-steroids badass.

What if you start out as a young kid?Should a child be made to stand and fight for a doomed village that not even your Gray Warden could save, the point I'm trying to make is you know next to nothing about the backstory of Hawke you're just making assumptions based on the little information Bioware has released on the character and thats just unfair.

I believe the saying is "women and children first", so yes.

I was doubtful at first, but I see more and more potential with this. Having run away is actually kind of cool. As much as I enjoyed DA:O, I felt all my characters had a similar "tough guy" or "military guy" personality. Sort of similar to Shepard actually. I would have liked to have seen a bit more variety in the kind of personalities you could show.

For example, a rouge character might have more of roguish personality, and be inclined to run when the odds are against them, and strike when a better opportunity presents itself. I could see a more sly Hawke escaping some goonish darkspawn, or some other threat, as he/she deftly avoids capture while chased.

Or a mage newly discovering their powers running from the idea of being locked up in the tower by the chantry, all while avoiding darkspawn. This could in fact be a more frightened and flighty character who is desperate and confused. As the story progresses, the magic wielding Hawke could gain confidence with aptitude in spell casting, and slowly become a sure and capable mage by then end.

What I'm getting at, is that the escape or running away can open up great potential for a character arc. Someone who grows and learns and changes, as opposed to someone who's a tough guy from the start.

I have high hopes. Lets see what happens.

Also, Hawke's armor is pretty freakin' cool looking on the cover of game informer.

I'm telling you all right now:

Hawke is the kid from the bridge in Lothering.

Get it??? Hawke... IS THE BRIDGE.... to DA2.

Yes, I will sign your breasts.

I was just thinking the same thing,it seems likely Hawke was a orphan from Lothering maybe even that kid who couldn't find his mom,in a way Hawke would have a link to your Gray Warden seeing that he met you when he was a child and likely because of that experience I'm guessing Hawke has a lot of respect for the Gray Wardens and likely ended up idolizing them, that might be the inspiration for the Hawke becoming a hero.

I think Hawke will be a grown man by the time our warden gets to Lothering.

Just speculating...

2. Not a big fan of having someone's name forced on me. Didn't like that in ME (nor in Alpha Protocol).

But you were OK with it in DA:O?  In that game everyone had a set last name, just like in DA2...

PS: (to everyone) Reading a review/critique to learn more about a game isn't inherently stupid.  A lot of people like to hear about the opinions of others.  In fact, that's one reason why messageboards are so popular.

I fail to see how it's a "loss."  I'm excited for the game, so it's not a bad thing.  I get how people find some of the changes jarring (it's bound to happen whenever a franchise turns in a different direction--I know, I've been on the "other side" before), but in this case the changes don't really bother me, and in fact I see many of them as improvements.  For example, I love it that this time the PC will be fully voiced and I think the arguments against having it fully voiced are pretty weak.

You're arguing that a child should have fought the darkspawn?  That's outrageous.

Why do people keep assuming that Hawke is male?  Hawke can be either gender.  Also, not all helpless refugees you meet in DA:O are women and children.

The complaints seem to be coming from the people who want to only play male, tough guy characters, who never, ever waver in the face of danger. Personally, I thought it was all about choice. :D
