Mass Effect felt like i was watching it.
Dragon Age felt like i was living it.

Ruin our fantasy Bioware.

Im not buying this. I expected so much from Dragon age 2 and for it all to be took away. Jerks

Well,
If u are judging DA2, already with that very few information we have, i guess u must be the jerk not BioWare.
They just improving the game, not ruining it.
Whats wrong with u ppl?

Oh yeah improving the game? By taking away are choices. So we can have some cheesy voice and a cheesy name called Hawke. I dont want to play there fantasy RPG. No wait we arnt even sure if its a rpg anymore are we?

And yes I am judging DA2 already because I hat everything about it so far even the leaked screen shots look terrible.

I knew Hawke was from Lothering! Don't think the boy on the bridge is Hawke, though... it wouldn't make sense if the player makes Hawke female.

Interesting that he/she will be fully voiced... I'm sure a lot of people won't like that change, but since Hawke's background is more defined than the Warden's, I think it's a good choice. Wouldn't hurt if Jennifer Hale did the female voice. (Sometimes I reload and play conversations again in ME just to marvel at how cool the VO is.)

The rest isn't really a surprise. We already know Hawke is human, and the rest was already suggested by the press release/website. I'm intrigued by the clearer statement that "Dragon Age II is not about killing an ancient evil or about quelling another blight; Hawke is the driving force behind the narrative." Good to know this won't be a retread, but what sort of challenges will Hawke face, I wonder?

I hope that "What exactly Hawke does to earn the honorary title of Champion, however, is up to you." doesnt mean that the goal of the game is to be the champion of Kirkwall. I'd rather see different "origins" to become the champion.

I'm very excited for DA2. However, from the small bits we've been given, it's sounding a lot like Fable. I will reserve total judgment until it actually comes out, though. Can't wait for the full article and the trailer!

This game seems better and better.

" It also eliminates those awkward scenarios where you feel like your character should be reacting, but instead just stares blankly without so much as a grunt."

That was exactly how i felt in some of the conversations, i want to hear the anger in my characters voice.

Point 5 was the best, i'm a bit sick of playing the good guy saving the world. A story about the march to power and what you do on the way is cool. I like the idea of seeing what the long term consequences of your actions will be by skipping a couple of years between chapters, imagine how the romances would work!!!

Hopefully, politics and secterianism between the city-states of the Free Marches.

This sounds so awesome. Stop complaining, people!!

So many new things, not just mindless killing or "gather and army and save the world from an ancient evil". Bioware are trying to do something new and I really like the idea of it. This sounds much more realistic and I'm sure there are going to be so many options and choices and a strong storyline.

You have my support.

I'm thinking Hawke was probably rather young when he fled Lothering. Could be wrong - but I still don't see anything cowardly about an unskilled, armourless refugee fleeing from the darkspawn horde. Maybe he becomes heroic later...over a ten year period...as suggested by the press release. :P

How is Hawke young? he looks like 40?Image IPB

I *suppose* the bearded model they're using looks 40. I suppose...nah, not really.  I don't know how old that guy is, and don't care.  I actually hate that art - not the bearded concept, because bearded Duncan KICKED ASS.  This other guy looks bland and generic.  Of course, it's up to the player to customize their character - I'm not reading much into that cover.

Anyhow, note how I speculated that Hawke was probably rather young...WHEN HE FLED LOTHERING.  I don't know the timeline for DA:2 - who knows how old he is when the game starts? He'll be ten years older when he finishes, anyway. Unless some mysterious time warpage magic happens. Which I'm not counting on.

That little boy was sure acting like a girl to me... I say you can go either way... just jokin... wonder why I didn't think of that...

However it would be very easy to switch between if male the boy from the bridge if female the girl from the chantry. That would be pretty cool.

the site says "instead of fighting the darkspawn" so i'm assuming he was capable enough. sounds yellow to me.

Well, maybe he WAS cowardly. Or maybe he was *unable* to fight back...due to age, or inexperience, or whatever.  But both possiblities - by no means the sole possibilites, so much speculation! - are equally interesting in the hands of good writers. Probably anything is interesting in good writing. Image IPB

I am a little disappointed about the VO, but at the same time am interested in what they plan to do with it. I wish that I was able to continue with my grey warden though and I really miss the fact that I could choose different races, but like I said I am interested to see what they will do with it.

yeah, me too! I feel exactly the same way. my City Elf was gorgeous and killed a lot of people... but she never reacted to anything. forget those silly lines of dialogue you're supposed to read in your head. she was just my mute puppet I moved around. and romances are terrible when it's only a one way street.

I liked the whole aspect of the Player char talking giving the player Emotion but yet the one aspect that does bother me is the whole Mass Effect Char idea for DA2 no Elf? no Dwarf? only human? lame come on I liked how the world and people acted toward you if you weren't human it added realism to the game but right now the while Hawke thing sounds more and more like a DLC not DA2... I dunno but only time will tell to see if they change it... one could only hope!

I'm actually quite happy that he ran... If Hawker is going to have some kind of pre-set personality, i want it to be a sensible one, not wishy washy "Let's save the world!" one.

Why would he have fought the Blight? Plenty of jobs elsewhere.

Sounding great. It'll be a nice change of style and pace to tell a more personal story, and for a more personal story a fully voiced character is quite appropriate, I think. I liked Origins - LOVED Origins, but I certainly won't object to Bio trying something a little different this time around. Good stuff! x

abandoning your home and a chantry full of women and children is sensible? sounds more like cowardice. i don't want to play a coward.

Sounds good, still sad about not being able to pick a different race, but at least you can still customize your character.

The sounds good, I like this. I'm not bothered about the race thing. The origin thing I was a bit sad at, but this sounds like you can change your characetrs history to how you WANT--it isn't predetermined. This is an ununsal idea, but I like it.

Can't wait to hear voices.

Q: is there one set of voice (s-- male and female) or several male and female voices to choose from?

And all those complaining about playing a coward...cowards are far more interesting than typical, do or die heroes. I mean look at Rincewind from Discworld. Reluctant heroes with a past who have to CHANGE are interesting. Just because you start as a 'coward' doesn't mean your character can't grown. In fact, heck--characters SHOULD GROW.

The fact that Hawke is voiced makes me feel that the Leliana DLC was a test at that particular dialogue system.

I'm probably one of the minority when I'm glad they got a VO for Hawke, and got rid of origins. Like many have said, I didn't like my character looking stupidly and blankly at a wall or the person when something sad or bad happened, it adds emotion. And there would be so many origins until it got boring and repetitive, but anyway. Looking forward to this one Bioware. :)

Bye bye to my own multiple personalities creation for my multiple chars... another Shepard.. Shepa Hawke!

And if the dialogue options comes in a circle with the spoken line being very different of that which we choose... well, I'll kill myself... again.

Why do I have the feeling that Shepa Hawke will gain scars, perhaps little horns, if he's a badzz and a halo-paragon stars if he's a goodie-goodie?

This is definitely a game that I will play a DEMO before I spend my hard earned money on it. No matter how!
