Hawke as human is stupid. There's no reason that Hawke, story-wise, couldn't be an elf or a dwarf--either of those races could have been present in Lothering, and, indeed, elves definitely were.

Yay! Well, we already know that we'll be forced into being some sort of savior of Kirkwall. Blech. Free Marches I'm fairly blah on. I suppose BioWare's saving Orlais or the Anderfells for the next Blight.
...
Still, it's a bit early. I dunno. Guess we'll see if its gameplay is any interesting.
How do you know, "story-wise", that Hawke couldn't be other than human? You don't know the story. It's not out yet!
I don't think anyone's forcing us to be the saviour of Kirkwall. I don't think anyone forces us to be Batman in Arkham Asylum, either. You're presented with a game, and it's telling a story: being Batman, Mario, or the champion of Kirkwall is essential to the premise. Do you want to play the story, or no? Your choice. It's the writers' job to tell the story, and give some options about how the player participates. Maybe with a multi-billion dollar budget, Bioware will someday create a super-ultra reality where you can do and be ANYTHING. And then start fielding complaints about the openess.

I loved the fact that you could choose you're own origin and create your own character from practicly nothing and i'm kinda pissed you can't carry him over to DA2.
But Dragon Age is about The Dragon Age and what important events take place in it.
You where an unknown man or woman who would eventualy end the 5th Blight.
So now you will see how this character called Hawke becomes a Hero.
And I am interested how he will become this Hero?
Do you start out as a coward who fled from Lothering? And if you do,will you see him overcoming his fears and guilt in the 10 year span. Or will you automaticly start as some badass who says: Ya know what i'm gonna rule this country. I prefer him overcoming his fears and everything though.
Also if you gonna do a VO PC let us hear some emotion in his/her voice.
Even if Shepard was supposedly pissed, he/she pretty much sounded the same as ussual.

The narrative focusing on Hawke could be either good or bad. As long as they stay as far away from it being another Shepard...
Eugh, it's almost as bad as when Bioware forced us to be some Gray Warden (what if I want to be something else, zomg!?) and made all of the first game take place in that horrible country Ferelden! That place smelled like wet dog, everywhere, and I was forced to save it - another example of Bioware taking away choice! I'm glad they're not doing another bland Warden character again!

Anyways, running from Lothering was stupid? Everyone, even the templars knew that Lothering was a lost cause and the bann had taken his army up north. One Champ doesnt matter in that situation.

also I aint buying that he was a kid, as that would make him only 20-26 at the END of DA2, so no. Concept art makes him look like 30-40.

imo many people here judge wayyyyyyyy to fast! just because hawkes voiced doesn't mean it's ME dialoque system!
I'm sorry but yes it does... Bioware likes the me dialog system and even implemented it in Leliana's Song DLC... sure there was no wheel, but exact same system! They wouldn't develop a whole new system where you say exactly what is written, or give the player 5 or more lines to choose from because voice actors are expensive and that would be way way too much dialog. You are being naive if you think it's not going to be the same system... it is..
Also i have ten bucks that Hawke is going to have a gravelly hardened commander voice.. like in those machinima mini series... which is only going to work for a bad ass wrrior cause that is what their target demographic wants... so say goodbye to the light hearted quippy archer, or the pretentious mage.... we're all bad ass warrior Hawke now!! (even if you select the rouge or mage specialization)

did u play DA1????? i mean sorry but there was NO hope for lothering and everybody knew that. it's better to get away and fight another day than to get sliced by some giant horde because ur such a big hero !
He didn't just leave Lothering, but also Ferelden.
Do I even have to mention that Ferelden won the war? If Hawke wasn't a kid then a deserter, I don't see much more options. Unless ... well there was something special, personal to him or her that makes it a good choice. I'm just hoping that BW doesn't leave it like that ...
