EA owns BioWare, there is no "standing up to them". They sold their company, with all the good (lots of money for them) and bad (decline of quality) things that such a move often brings, especially in businesses that depend on creativity. So yeah, of course EA has a lot to do with it. But except from not buying the product, there's nothing you can do about it, nor can the people at BioWare who might not like it either.

The shorter release schedule has nothing to do with EA, except for the fact BioWare has access to EA's things, which no doubt make creating a game a quicker process.

Sequels always take less to make, and Dragon Age 2 is no different.

I blame the fans who won't stop jumping to conclusions and throw both intelligence and logic out the window in favor of ranting about things they really have no grasp on.

But hey, that's me.

Lately Activision seems more "evil empire" to me now. EA is still pretty bad though, charging $20 for some furniture pfft. It's why I won't buy The Sims 3.

Haha, as if BioWare never made a bad game prior to being owned by EA. This bit of historical revisionism is hilarious - they never really made deep RPG's like a Black Isle or something. What do you guys call NWN or Jade Empire? Or the constant recycling of the same formula that they've been doing? True elitists think they've been declining since BG2 - this is some serious weaksauce elitism in this thread.

Dragon Age was finished in March 2009, not November.
March 2009 to February 2011 is two years. Which is the standard time for anyone to make a sequel when you're not making a new engine.

Yes, and quite often the items are broken. Not to mention the game has major bugs but they don't bother fixing them. They spend most of the time plugging DLC.

I just have feeling EA is making them come out with games faster. It took 4 years to make dragon age origins now it's less than 2 for dragon age 2.

Why you might ask is dragon age 2 faster to make? They remove dwarf and elf so now there is less dialouge to worry about for different people reacting to your race. Remove different orgigins which alter your pass and ending and limit the game.

Because the extra dwarf and elf lines and the work in the origins were such an amazing amount that it would have taken them three extra years to implement.

Ah yes, "EA being the evil overlord of gaming"... Get over it, people. EA has done more for gaming in the past few years than any other publisher, don't try to project your hate on a company that has done nothing but good since 2007.

BioWare has been doing better than ever under EA, better than they could do alone, don't let your ignorance blind you.

There is no "standard time", some companies take a year and some take several years. Development time is a poor guage for guessing quality.

Hey, let's complain about what a terrible sequel Bad Company 2 is and what a horrible game Dead Space 2 will be too while we're at it.

Seriously people, EA might have done some stupid crap but they are lesser of two evils. Hell, they've had some excellent games lately, Brutal Legend being my favorite (not counting DA that is). So, untill we get more info about DA2 and maybe some sceens and a video, let's tone down the ****ing and shouting k?

Do we know they've removed the option to be an elf or dwarf or is this just assumption?

When I first heard of Dragon Age I was pissed off because there were only three races to choose from and only three classes to choose from, I didn't like that the skills were limited to four different spell groups and four different weapon groups. I thought it sounded stupid and limited... then I played it. I was upset because my expectations had been shaped by a couple of decades of dnd and I didn't think a similar game could work without the same framework. I was wrong.
Moral? Don't judge it until you can test it.

Given how much Bioware games sell, and the fact they seem to have given SWTOR a blank check (Seriously, do you know how much all that voice has got to COST?) I don't think you can push the blame on EA for rushing anything.

It has been confirmed by the Developers

Captain Jazz, they've been removed for sure.

The appeal of the origins stories is that they were one of the best parts of the original game, and they really shaped what kind of character you played. If you were a Dwarven Noble for instance, knowing first hand what a corrupt and decadent mess dwarven society was and how downhill it was going, you might be a lot more open to keeping the Anvil of the Void.

It's really a shame that this particular part of the game is getting scrapped, because it was a really good idea.

But I agree with you - a lot of the posts here are the worst kind of RUINED FOREVER!!! kind of kneejerk reactions.

I'm just amused that EA is perpetually confused as to why their PC franchises go down the toilet in disinterested outpourings of pirating.
Hint: PC gamers don't like ****ty console ports developed for 14 year olds.

So in your opinion, console gamers should be denied the chance to experience the Dragon Age franchise simply because PC gamers do not like it. As I have already said in another topic post, it is wrong that console gamers should be stereotyped as impatient teenagers, we are not all like that (not all impatient anyway). It is possible to be a console gamer and still want the old-school RPG experience that DA:O brought. I think that the fact that DA2 is looking less attractive DA:O should not be attributed to consoles, we should not be made scapegoats for Bioware's decision to tone down the customisation options.

Well crap. But I've played plenty of games where I didn't have the option to choose race... hell, plenty of rpgs don't even let you pick the hair colour of your character. As long as we still get to pick class I still don't see a big deal.

What about Starcraft 2? That didn't take less time to make.

It's even funnier when you realize that BioWare have been making console RPG's since 2003 with KotOR

Blizzard has been riding the cash cow that is World of Warcraft for the last 6 years. They can take all the time they want to release their next game.

Valve is the same way, except their cash cow is Steam.

If they dealy too much this console generation will pass, and going into the next halfway a saga won´t help sales, especially if games are not compatible. We still can play BG, which is the oldest FF PS3 can play?
