I already started that project , its WIP , but its in the workings :) ok , now that ive cleared up everything about the trailer ( I will eventually remake all the trailer armors , dont worry ) you can all pick 1 armor I will make as a gift for this community.

For the moment , were at 3 votes for mages hats , and 2 for random helmets and hats ... please , do continue , I will go on till the topic reaches 10 pages. (or 5 if 10 takes to long for me to still care :P )

Would it be possible to give her more of a female figure, proportion wise? tmp7704 went ahead and changed all the female armours to give them more realistic proportions. And I have to admit, he did a good, if not great, job at that. Otherwise I like what you've created there; fancy artwork and it resembles the Sacred Ashes armour very closely!

As for the texture, from what I read someone else is doing that? I would suggest making the red materials look less shiny. For some reason or the other it realy pulls attention towards itself. Other than that I have little to comment on.

Of course, these are just suggestions based on my own opinion, so please don't take them to heart. I have nothing but respect for custom content authors.

:)

Haha great , thanks for the comment , and you have to know that , while I find tmp7704's work very interesting and a great initiative , most people still use the basic DAO models , and I hope to serve the majority with this , unless offcourse everyone would stand up and protest , saying that I should adapt it :P

About the texturing , we'll have to see how it turns out for other people :)

I thank you for the kind comment though :)

looks like there are no normal maps. the mesh itself, especially the shoulder pads and the breast leather protection, looks way too flat. also all the specmaps are a bit too shiny. beside this it looks very good ;)

(don't forget to make low lod versions^^)

To be honest, I would rather have the slightly off proportions and no clipping with interactive animations, than have perfect proportions that clip.

oops didn't read the thread carefully enough earlier. Female armor = good choice! Ice cream van = better choice! Is this armor to be leather? Or chain? Just thinking for rp purposes it might be better to have more of one or the other. In either case, looking good, and thanks for posting up that update!

@ -semper-
It does have normal maps ,but I cant ask it from the texturer atm , he's been working on it for 2 days , without stop , and that while its supposed to stay fun :P shinyness is indeed a bit high , but you understand why this cant be asked atm
low LOD version = done

@ladydesire
I think the same way , adapting the armor to tmp7704's mod would mean complete refitting , with minor clipping problems that "could" follow , we'll see into this if theres enough "demand" after it :P

@Fen Tabris
Leather , and it was an update gladly done :)

EDIT: heres the link guys , enjoy => http://social.biowar...m/project/3023/
EDIT2 : sorry , I forgot to upload the files :P It was late last night , scuse me :P theyre up now , go grab em !

I have to applaud all who can do this being the computer illiterate that I am. I found this thread just looking for the DAO Modmanager. LOL She looks great to me, if not a bit too shiny. wish I knew how to get the characters to look this great in game.

I would like to see some wolf skin armor. Something we can use all these skins for. I guess it would be light armor, but could be incorporated into medium also. Being animal skins could have a cold resistance factor to it?

P.S. Teronas, your pic is sexy :)

Hmm.... armor suggestions (if the offer for suggestions is still open):

Well, I'd like to see more 'mage hats', obviously. The classic cone should be easy to render. Easily modified then to an Inquisitor's Cone (cone hat + face veil). However, using basic shapes imaginatively employed gives more options still.

F'rinstance: if you use something like a crescent instead of a cone, you get an effect similar to the evil witch Malificent in 'SnowWhite' (the old Disney cartoon).

I recommend taking a look on the internet, under the headings: medieval/renaissance hats. The era from about 1350 to 1450 offers the most imaginative headgear. During that period, the styles would change every year or so, and some of the fashions were outrageous, and very dramatic.

There was something I noticed: baddies get those cool looking 'horned' helmets, good guys have to settle for something like a tin can on their head. Indeed, even when it is the SAME helmet (such as the Helm of Corruption) you lose the cool look when you loot the helmet off the dead Darkspawn general. Why is that?

More on horns: Revenants have 'em, but you can't take their horned helmets. If a horned revenant helmet can be rendered, why not for Player Characters?

Armor: historically, there was something called a brigandine. This was a fairly ordinary looking 'shirt' with chainmail under the shirtcloth. It allows a character to 'appear' to be wearing civilian clothes, but still have the benefit of light chainmail armor. I would imagine the Crows to really appreciate something like brigandine.

I'd like to see some use for wolfskins. It'd be nice if I could have a wolfskin cloak. I realize that it is hard to render capes/cloaks because the cloth doesn't 'flow' right. But, a real fur or hide cloak mostly hangs 'heavy' anyway, so it might be rendered, yes?

Historically, there was a type of armor called 'ring mail'. It was not a coat of little metal rings woven together, but was more like a series of 1" rings sewn flat onto a leather backing. It was cheap, fairly flexible, and good enough to stop slashing weapons.

As a game function, it would be treated something like a midway between leather and chainmail. As a graphical rendering, however, it really opens up possibilities, as it could be allowed to show a bit of skin on the characters (that is, the graphic would just be an overlay mesh onto a naked torso or over a shirt).

Another issue: I would like to have seen more use of 'bronze' as a color and armor. Historically, bronze is actually damned good armor, especially as it could be more easily repaired. The drawback to bronze is NOT that it is so much weaker than iron, but that it is heavier for the same protection. The ancient Greeks used bronze extensively in breastplates and full body carapaces.

Other 'armor' issues: the Ash Warriors supposedly wear kaddis. So... where is the rendering of them wearing body paint? I assume the Ash Warriors are loosely based on ancient Picts/Scots... so, would it be possible to simply apply a bit of tattoos to a naked chest, as a graphic?

I was using my meager skills to try creating this for Oblivion a while ago:

http://img820.images...7261258254.png/

http://img594.images...7261258477.png/

I would really love to see something similar to that. The selection of decent male clothing in this game (both originally and through mods), is pathetically thin.

@JHByrne

You have a big list there and im afraid that , if I were to do all of them , id be busy for a month or so :P
Im not that experienced , and the hats for mages sound good , but the cape/cloak is beyond my capabilities , my friend however can teach me , but that will take alot of time as well ... I suggest you pick 1 thing which you would really like and bring that one forward :)

EDIT: everything else is pretty doable , so pick from anything except the cloaks please ?

@Kesaru

Noted.

on a sidenote people = we have made a serious update on the armor : http://social.biowar...m/project/3023/
Enjoy :)

Nice start on the armour front.

I immediately noticed that the project says "No other site, appart from dragon age nexus or Bioware's social site is allowed to post this mod without prior authorization from any of the authors.".

I've seen this on one or two other mods, too, so I think it's appropriate to raise it in this wider forum.

I don't want to reopen the question of whether content restrictions are right or wrong, or discuss anything here that might be construed as a legal opinion, but I would just like to confirm the intention in respect of derivative works.

If you simply mean that you'd like to control where your original work is posted, I personally don't have a problem with that.

However, if I include your armour in my standalone campaign, with suitable credit and a link to your original, are you saying that you want to control where my work is published?

What I meant with that is that I want to know where it is posted :) you are free to use it as long as you ask me first ... I will most likely say yes unless the project you want to involve it in is extremely against my standards ... but I assure you , that wont happen :P

I'm not sure whether you're aware of this, but many of us value being part of an open community.

Personally, I won't use any content that is subject to the author's permission, period.

As it happens, freedom to publish on any site is especially important to me, too - my NWN work is hosted at my own expense in the UK, for my peace of mind.

I don't want to debate the rights and wrongs of this here, but it would be a courtesy if when soliciting ideas you made it clear from the outset that there will be usage restrictions.

Please consider my request withdrawn.

I wouldn't use anything under those conditions either. you should be happy if someone wants to use your content, not trying to control them.

Yeah... I still want a black rogue-like cape with a hood. The rogue just isn't the same without it. I'd make it and put it in the helmet slot, but I'm not much of an artist.

Proleric has a way of saying things that sometimes sounds like he's looking for a fight, but I think the underlying point he's making is a good one to consider:

For people making full story-driven mods, in other words, completely new games from the Dragon Age toolset, the issue of whether or not we can freely use the community's content (once permission is granted) is a big deal. Not because it's hard to send out a quick PM to get permission down the line when we want to host our work on another site, but because it's hard or even impossible to send out 20 or 30 PMs over different websites to people who might not even still be a part of the community in a year, when some of us may still be working on our current projects.

Seen from this perspective, authors of really long term projects which are already taking hundreds of hours of work can't risk acquiring the extra logistical baggage of having to ask many mod authors and content creators permission every time they want to do something with their project.

It seems like a small concession to me to seek permission to the people who put their valuable time into expanding the Dragon Age world and resources, but when I think about the legwork and the potential stress I'll cause myself by having to remove or replace content from my module when I can't get in touch with the original authors, it makes me pretty convinced that the wisest path is to only use things which have no strings attached, however slight.

Hope that makes sense -- just trying to explain why something which seems fair actually puts people in potentially frustrating situations.

Look guys , before you charge me at my doorsteps here :P let me make this clear ... it is not my intention of controling you whenever you use my mod , all I ask for however is that you just ask me ... I think I may have stated it wrong , and not speaking english as a native language probably made it worse for me , anyways , let me rephrase = You are free to use it as long as you ask me and tell me what your are using and where you post it  (where you post it is not off real concern to me , even if its on a japanese 18+ site , but I like to see what my work has contributed toward ), not for taking control of it. I know this is an open community and I like it this way , but the fact that people already tried and succeeded at "stealing" my work ( placing it under their name and posting it somewhere else ) does not make it fun for me ... I know I should be happy in some sort off way , since they like my work but they could just tell/ask me .... I hope you dont misunderstand , all im trying to say is that you are free to use it , as long as you tell me what you will use it for and where you will post it , not to control you , just out of curiosity :) (and offcourse give credit where it is due)

PS: if some off this sounded completely different then my last post , I either changed my mind , or it came out the wrong way , this post is as clear as I can explain it with my own words.

EDIT: thanks Talisander ... I think I get it ... I just didnt really understand what the first question really meant , now I do...

Perhaps we all want the same thing here.

I'd be very surprised if anyone involved in this thread approves of stealing, i.e. presenting someone else's work as original. Rather than work against us, work with us to stamp that out if it occurs in this community. In the first instance, you can report instances to the moderators. In the unlikely event that doesn't work, ask this builder community to lobby on your behalf.

Also, I'd be glad to help you with any reasonable request, such as telling you where your work is being used. You'll have my thanks and credit for what you've contributed. I imagine that almost everyone here would do the same.

The one thing that is not acceptable is having to ask for permission. This is a hobby, a voluntary association open to all without discrimination, not a master-slave relationship.

I don't expect everyone to agree with that, but, given that most people here operate on an informal basis, I think it's only fair to ask that you either do the same, or let us know up front that you want to be different.

If my tone seems hostile, I apologise. It doesn't have to be that way.

I am still with Proleric1.

I would certianly give credit and send you a PM when i release something with your CC in it. But i wouldn't accept any influence beyond that or even the need to wait for a reply.
