If this were set in Orlais, I'd expect Alistair to be a non-party member that is nonetheless a plot character. Since it's set in the Free Marshes though, it seems like it would be a stretch to include Alistair. I mean, it's not clear that Ferelden and the Free Marshes have any political ties at all. Sure, they could write some in. But I wouldn't expect any Alistair any Dragon Age 2. Maybe passing mention about the king (or dead guy or drunkard that didn't become king) down south.

Most likely he'll still be king just a big older and more grizzled.

It would make the game overly referential. And we wouldn't want that, would we?

I don't care if we never see any of the original DA characters ever again. Never liked any of them, except for maybe Oghren.

Honestly I wouldn't. The less it references Origins the less it has to set canon and conflict with my play throughs.

Well maybe the amount of locations stay the same, but the world map gets bigger. Who know whether we travel to Ferelden or not.

Personally I want to go see Tevinter.

I'd rather have an appropriate cameo - or no appearances at all - from the Origins crew than having the kind of forced storytelling some fans might want. I admire and trust Bioware's writers, and if they can write someone in, they'll do a good job with it. But I'm certainly not expecting it.

Given that DA:O Awakening and DA2 seem to be happening at the same time, Alistar likely wont be a character just as the Warden wont be a character. I want new characters anyway--with different personalities

I would give just about anything to see Tevinter.  Partially because I'm addicted to mages and I think the Byzantine Empire that formed the inspiration for Tevinter is full of WIN.

Also, I'd rather not see the Origins characters again.  I like them all, but I want to see a fresh cast.  Also, considering the Origins characters can all die or leave except for Oghren, and Awakenings has some...erm...problems in store for its new NPCs, I'm not sure we'll be seeing terribly much of them.  As far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.

BioWare have also, IMO, been getting progressively better at making likeable NPC casts, though that's of course a matter of personal preference.  Up until DA:O, there were always a few characters per cast that I found decidedly meh, and I always loathed at least one member of my party to the point where I'd actively try to get them killed.  (Offing Carth was the best one, though...oh the glorious evil )  Then in DA:O, I found that I didn't dislike any of my party members.  It was a little strange to be honest, so I directed my hate toward Arl Eamon :innocent:  Then ME2 came along, and I liked everyone in my crew--even Thane, whom I also love to pick on incessantly.  So here's hoping to an amazing NPC cast for DA2.
