"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana

The problem, of course, is that this is not Bioware's past being repeated, but that does not invalidate the lesson to be learned.

Anyway. I've figured out what's going on here (beyond EA's slimy tentacles being involved)

DA2 is Kings Quest 8 all over again.

This time however, I won't make the mistake of buying it and playing it through to the end, hoping that it would get better. *facepalm*

"History is a myth that men agree to believe."
- Napoleon

People commonly refuse to believe in the lesson of history. As Napoleon Bonaparte had studied it a bit himself his ignorance and denial of the use of history proved his undoing.

But I don't really think that's whats going on here. I know as much as they've stripped rpg elements and have done other things which have disappointed people. They most likely have their reasons and I'd like to hear them first. Yeah, I'm disappointed a bit too but it's best to get some more details first.

"History is not history unless it is the truth."
-Abraham Lincoln

KQ8? No. They took a legendary adventure series and turned it into a...not really sure what KQ8 was supposed to be but it was terrible and totally endemic of Sierra's slide into oblivion. They made the old mistake of attempting to appeal to new audiences and ended up alienating their old audience while appealing to nobody new. But I doubt DA2 is going to take an RPG and make it a racing game or whatever the equivalent would be,

I think what happened with Quest for Glory 5, taking an RPG and making it an action game, could be comparable.

"Don't get mad, get even." - Robert F. Kennedy

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you truly feel like BioWare made a mistake, let them feel the 'error' of their ways, but don't whine like you're doing right now whilst knowing next to nothing.

you don't think you're being a little unfair? EA's tentacle's aren't slimy.

The Suikodan series took a massive hit when they changed too much and alienated their core audience. Only by going back to the tried and true and drawing back some of those fans did they somewhat slavage the title. Even now they are unsure of a release for #6 in the series because of the damage done and the limited recovery. This sort of short sightedness can kill a franshise as the examples above show.

Like it or not, corporations make your video games now.

I suppose, if you end up hating DA2 and claim that corporations always ruin things, then you can always play Torchlight and still have a good time.

Yeah, the quote is 100% right, those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

That's the reason we're going to relive this all over again: DA2 will perform even better than it's predecessor and, some months after it's release, DA3 will be announced. You and others like you will be here again saying that's going to suck because it's nothing like DA2. The irony.

The budgets for mainstream games are simply too massive for the little guys anymore.

Are there indie RPGs being made?  I do not even know.

The Warcraft series took a massive hit when they turned the beloved RTS into an MMORPG to broaden the appeal to EverQuest-type players.

Did I say "took"? I meant "became". One of the most commercially successful games ever made and still going, all because Blizzard decided to try something different.

Great quote.

Before DAO there were all sorts of complaints about how Bioware was dumbing things down and abandoning the legacy of BG2, and then DAO turned out to be a huge hit.

Before DA2, there are all sorts of complaints about how Bioware is dumbing things down and abandoning the legacy of DAO, and then... we will see.

But its hard to get worked up over all this once you have seen it more than once, let alone many times.

And this is not what's happening with DA2, based on what's already been revealed?  I beg to differ.

I dunno, I remember that game sucking a lot less.  But overall yes, I would tend to agree.

As of right now, that's fully what I intend to do.

I also love how every dissenting opinion is automatically termed whining.

I still don't understand this line of thinking.  We HAVE information.  When I read things like that, it makes me think "So, you're saying everything we've been told so far is a lie?"

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind

Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country

To be or not to be that is the question

I LIKE FAMOUS QUOTES TOO! :)

No, you have speculation.

It's not the same as information.

So what the devs have told us is simply their speculation.  Interesting.
