I don't care if none of DAO's characters show up in DA2.

And that is why I am excited about DA2. It's not a bona-fide direct sequel to DAO whatsoever.
Anyone share my sentiments?
BioWare, are you reading this?

So no sweat on this one. New format seems interesting... if they don't actionize all the combat.

And what didn't you like about them? The group was pretty diverse, if you only enjoy the company of belching, lecherous, alcoholic dwarves, you may be disappointed with the companions in DA2...

Who cares about them.. DA2 is a different story and I'm glad we'll be able to play a new character and start from level 1. BUT, being shoehorned into a preset character (voice, surname, bulging muscles..) is not ok. Yeah, yeah, you get to pick your gender and face and... nothing else.
I dont get why people are complaining about this. You couldn't pick your bloody surname in the first one, and you sure as hell couldn't change your body type. You character was always muscled.

Why do you like DA:O if you didn't like any of the companions except for Oghren? It seems like the game would have been horribly boring and empty without them.

Oghren served as the comic relief for what was a very serious game. Hence, his archetypical role was very much welcomed, at least for me.
While I didn't like any of the characters, I liked all the party banter and the dialogue options. The way in which a player can interact with everyone was pretty amazing. The story was semi-decent. It was also an old-school RPG.
DAO's characters just never really clicked with me. Leliana was creepy, Sten was blunt, Morrigan is the ice queen that never opens herself up (unless you happen to romance her), and so on. None of the characters expressed much dynamism.
I don't know, but I say good riddance.

Think. Think.
In DAO (which wasn't a good game anyway) you could at least pick an origin with a surname that wasn't going to be mentioned in the game ever, like you never even picked it. Your character wasn't voiced. You could pick your race so you at least had some variety in the bodies - and the human male body didn't look so overly muscular (.. not that I don't like muscular male bodies).
Get it?

Alistair brought a lot of laughs with his innocent playful manner. We joked and laughed a lot together. And almost all other companions had pretty fun moments too, you just had to get to know them better.XX55XX wrote...

I personally don't want to see the companions from the first game IF there is a set DA:O canon that would conflict with my personal playthroughs. If DA2 tells me that Zevran is now the leader of the Antivan Crows, or that Alistair is a miserable drunk, I *absolutely* don't want to see them. It would just be hurtful.
My favorite characters were probably Wynne, Alistair, and Morrigan, but I liked all of them to various degrees. If my choices from DA1 are going to be carried over, I wouldn't mind cameos to a small degree, but I'm fine with this being a completely new story, with new party members. I look forward to seeing them.
I don't enjoy games like Oblivion or Fallout 3 as much as I do Dragon Age, because of the lack of interesting companions. I'm really hoping that DA2 doesn't actually have a possibility of sixteen companions, because I can't imagine that they would give all of them enough attention dialogue-wise to do them proper justice.

The chracters from the first one were good characters. I'm sure Bioware will make new characters that are good too. The key lies in the balance between new content, and enough reference to feel like you are part of the same world.
