I don't know. Dragon Age 2 sounds less interesting if it's basically just about some dude or chick who wants to be top gun for the hell of it.

Once they reveal parts of the backstory and plot I guess we will find out.

Heh. I'm not complaining here. I'm just curious as to what people think will be Hawke's motivation. And perhaps what their Hawke's motivation will be, if we are given a say in it.Ulicus wrote...
Why do YOU want Hawke to be the Champion of Kirkwall? I suspect that'll be your answer. It's an RPG, after all. Are you really gonna complain if your character's motivation isn't dictated to you?

The fact that the place is even called Kirkwall is potentially game breaking to me. How am I supposed to have suspension of disbelief when there's a city called Kirkwall about 100 - 200 miles from me?
Let's call Bioware and demand they rename it to Wallkirk then.

4. Hawke is the Champion of Kirkwall.
Kirkwall is a major population center in the Free Marches, a collection of city-states north of Ferelden. This means that at least some of the action in Dragon Age II will be set in Kirkwall itself, though Hawke will also spend time in other areas of the Free Marches. What exactly Hawke does to earn the honorary title of Champion, however, is up to you.
The way that is worded says to me that we will be playing out the events that will lead to Hawke becoming the Champion of Kirkwall. So hopefully we can roleplay our own character's motivations, whether they are selfish or altruistic. Personally, I've had enough of morally grey. I want to be the knight in shining armor this time.

@DrunkDeadman Think about it though. Imagine you live in Nashville and they call the place in a fantasy game Memphis.
I know what you mean. Seen similar stuff.

I doubt it's a matter of wanting to become Champion of Kirkwall, per se. I mean, I don't think that will be your character's driving motivation.Collider wrote...

Rather, I'm guessing that after fleeing the Blight, he'll be caught up in something in Kirkwall, and in the process of dealing with it, will be given the title. All the title means is that something big is going to happen there. I don't think this'll be the end-game thing either. The way they word it, it's almost as though it's already in the past. So if it DOES happen while we play, I'm sure it'll be relatively early on.

What if it was a fantasy Kingdom based on ancient Egypt? Pretty sure I could get passed it.
