Arcane warrior spec-combat mage?

What little ive read thus far leads me to believe this specialization could help me to create a somewhat interesting and enjoyable combat mage that could hold his own in melee? I enjoy coming up with hybrid type characters in games i play.
The only downside i see to all this is i have a for fun save near the area u have to go in to get the specialization unlocked and it doesnt look like ill be able to speed dash through to unlock it lol, shame, i sorta wanted that one unlocked right away when i begin my mage character.

Edit: On that note, since it doesnt look like i can speed run that forest on a secondary save and will probably just wait and do it when i run with mage. Im thinking to make a good melee battle mage i figure at least rock armor from primal would be handy and i suspect debuff related spells would be handy as well. Im considering fire up to flame weapon , rock armor at the least from earth.  thought about winters grasp, but still working out a good way to go thats enjoyable.

Adding onto this as i am still interesting in building a warrior mage. Im plannin on picking up the flaming weapon skill . i have weakness and drain life as well. Im debating how to do the rest of my spells(2 points currently available and stats)since i havent unlocked arcane warrior yet im attempting to make sure my mage can survive in melee(already have a set of leather armor for the bonus) so i can get the hang of melee and casting effectively. I also have lightning. Is it worth putting a few stat points here and there pre AW to help my combat abilities while still keeping magic highest? like constitution and str?
Edit: my current stats with my mage are as follows
Str:13
Dex 12
Will 16
Magic 25
cunning 12
constitution 12

Can someone tell me what sort of weaponry an Arcane Warrior should look for? I got Spellweaver, but it's only a one hander and it seems like since I can't Dual Wield, I'd be better served with a two hander.

I am playing a mage on my second play a Healer/Arcane Warrior..my only problem is that it takes too long to put away your weapon to cast a hostile spell whereas its instant with healing...I just use the Arcane Warrior for armor and defense at this point

Update for me, i managed to use a side save i had to unlock Arcane warrior, so its rdy to go along with shapeshifter on my upcoming warrior mage. Obidex i did notice some spells cast even if u have say a sword or dagger equiped(i think weakness was one, and arcane bolt) i havent tested this on 2h or dual wield yet. Im continuing off the above stats and currently selected spells so far. Got 2 talent points on standby as i dont know what i wanna use em for yet.

Edit:  I hadnt originally realized that upon learning the first talent in arcane warrior that i automatically gained that passive bonus that lets u use ur magic score in place of str for weapons and armor. So i dont really need to put ne more points into str then i suppose, but seems like dex and con could still use a lil attention along with magic/will

I need to quit hoarding talent points and pick up a couple spells, will have to see what fits in best with my warrior mages playstyle, either picking up winters grasp or paralyze for a hold

I used Arcane Warrior for the armor and defensive spell at the end of the line..the weapon in hand slows attack spells and in the end isnt worth the gain

Well i building my arcane warrior to be more focused on the melee, i use an attack spell here and there but also debuffs, the animation switchups dont slow me down much, besides i always have morrigan in my party so if i needed heavy spell dps i just switch her tactics over. Im enjoying my warmage as it is. just need to decide what best to use my next couple of talent points on

there are two ways to play this the nigtmare warrior post is a good idea of a toe-to-toe fighter mage leveraging health for mana to allow spell casting....



Otherwise you have two routes, a mage in armor no real toe-to-toe fighting. It lets you take a few hits and look cool in armor etc. But you are going to spend a lot of mana in all that armor.

A toe to toe fighter with no real spell capabilities. Instead of raising will power you will raise con, I can't come up with an almost never hit character of any class, so con not dex. Level progression should allow you to have enough mana to keep something like 7 active buff spells going at once. You will be able to cast mana drain it has zero mana, and maybe one other very low lvl spell. You need the con as well to buff phys resistance or you are going to be laying down all the time or stunned all the time... yuck....



Again build out the mage in nightmare arcane warrior post and all the underlying will fall into place

you will need no str for an arcane warrior since you will use your magic rating as str for attack bonus and to see if you can use armor and weapons put nothing in dex or very few points dump most of whats left after you get to 42 magic into willpower and con. you will need the willpower for all the toggles you will be running. on my arcane warrior/ blood magic i have like 6 sustanded spells running that gives me at 65 armor and 97 defense if i get hit by a melee attack i only take 1 point and thats running on hard mode. i am using the spellweaver and a tower shield for extra defense. shapeshifter/ arcane warrior combo would have been the best combo in the game if you could keep the arcane warrior sustanded spell when you shift to other forms.

Ah yea, im making a fresh warmage this weekend since i missed the fact that i really DONT need str points at all once i hit arcane warrior. Seemed to get a glitch from one of the power of blood spells from warden keep though, it continued showing the icon for blood grasp? i think it was even though i wasnt using the spell. Shapeshifter was the other spec i was interested in since i dont really want to use spirit healer and wasnt sure if i really wanted bloodmage. Id probably only use the spider forms out of shapeshifter though lol. Thanx for the input though!

I am incredibly interested in AW specs. So far I've been pumping my PC full of MAG and WILL, I grabbed the following:

-Arcane Shield
-Rock Armor
-Bro fist
-Earthquake
-Heal
-Mind Blast
-Force Field
-Telekinetic Weapons

Skills I grabbed Combat Mastery to... rank 3 I think.

Anyway, I'm wondering where I should go from here. I'm currently wearing Leather armor and I've only just left the scene of the first battle (and the ogre). Ideas?

Happens here a lot, it would seem. I think the forums have recently exploded with activity and ther servers simply aren't happy about it.

For my arcane warrior I put all my points into magic, willpower, and constitution. I have Rock armor, arcane shield, and spell whisp on at all times, spell whisp is good because it increases spellpower, and spellpower increases the damage in melee combat soo it was a given for me. my spellpower is currently at 41 and my damage is at 47, keep in mind i am only level 12 right now.
virulent walking bomb is extremely helpful for when you have a lot of enemies on you, just infect one enemy then simply slash at them until they die and boom every other enemy in the vicinity is dead or badly injured...right now i am working on the hex's, because the final hex (death hex i think its called) when casted on an enemy makes every hit it takes a critical...extremely helpful especially for bosses. I dont have many primal spells at the moment but i may get lightning soon. Basically even with all my sustained abilities on right now i still have enough mana to cast heal and arcane bolt, and of course virulant walking bomb without having to worry about running out of mana, and i can also dish out and take quite a bit of melee damage.

I would love to be more thorough with the characters stats but i dont have the game on right now, this is just everything i remember about my character off the top of my head.

I'm using an arcane warrior and one thing you should keep in mind is it will have very low health and very low physical resistance.

I think the general idea is to get passive (sustained) buffs and keep stacking them until the AW is a monster. In particular I found the skill that drains nearby corpses for health automatically very useful. With all buffs going I'm looking at 70+ armor, 75+ damage (in inventory screen) and hovering around 100% fatigue. Since fatigue is so high from wearing effective armor (and I'm using tons of sustained abilities), I don't usually get off many spells, but mind blast is great (I use a rogue that autocrits on stunned enemies) and the AW can suck up a lot of ranged physical damage with the high armor. I also have some crowd control spells (but not the prison) for taking out mages. This way, she is both effective in a zerg to stun everything and suck up corpses for health, or running off on her own sucking up ranged damage.

Her damage output is mediocre, but I didn't spec her to do a lot of AOE damage or damage at all, really. She lacks the "chance to hit" attack ratio and the abilities to really make it a worthwhile melee contestant (even with 75 damage and frost+fire weapons).

Edit: Actually, nevermind the "low" physical resistance, you can use shimmering shield to counter that.
