In this article from Kotaku (linked to a Gameinformer article) they list a few things about Hawke. Things like He's human, he escaped the Blight, and how DA:2 wont be about him battling an ancient evil.
So I want to ask, is he even going to be a Grey Warden?
The main thing I loved in DA:O was the Grey Wardens. The idea of who they were, thier place in the world, and what they fought for. For crying out loud, I wear a Griffon pendant everywhere because of DA:O. I would go as far as to say, the Grey Wardens are like the Jedi, for this time.
Having Hawke not be a Grey Warden would almost kill the game for me, as small of a thing as it sounds.
I'm fine with the last name being set (as a human noble we were all named _______ Cousland)
I'm fine with the race being limited to Human, thats my preference
I wouldnt be fine with not being able to be a Grey Warden.
I dont ask for much Bioware, but this is something I can't budge on.

If there is no archdemon, there's no reason to become a grey warden

Grey Wardens are just one part of Thedas. You need them to stop a Blight, but they need not play a role otherwise.

I think it would be interesting to play the game but not as a grey warden, I mean it was shown that you don't need to be a grey warden to kill a darkspawn, the wardens are just better at it. Besides at least this way you don't have such a limited life span, that was the one thing that I disliked about playing a grey warden knowing that in terms of the game world I would barely live past 30

Wouldn't most people die around thirty anyways in a medieval setting from disease and what not, hell if you got to thirty you were either lucky or royalty

I think you got that wrong, they don't die in their thirties, they die about 30 years after becoming a Grey Warden, so if the Noble Origin starts when your character is about 20, he'll die in his 50s from the taint.

And back to topic: No, I don't think Hawke will be a grey warden, from what we know his main issue isn't the darkspawn, so being a grey warden wouldn't contribute to the story.

That´s a common misunderstanding, the mortality rate of infants in the medieval age was much larger than in modern times, which is the reason we calculate the "average" lifespan to around thirty-five. If you lived past your early months and got to building up your immune system you could actually count on living well into your seventies.

Wouldn´t it be awesome if you could CHOOSE to become a gray warden at some point in the game? like, a specialty or subclass, or maybe just a quest-line?

The Darkspawn aren't the main threat, so there's apsolutely no need to be one. Good riddance too. I hated being forced into the Wardens.

You are something much larger here, as the champion of Kirkwall we should expect some benefits too. I loved being a Grey Warden too, and I wouldn't mind being one in real life (if I had a guarantee I would survive the joining). But we can't always have the same thing. Variety is what I wan't. There is not Blight, there is no need for the Wardens. If you would become a Warden in DA:2 you would not have any job to do other than just watching out for Darkspawn. And tbh, I hope we get to see other things than Darkspawn. I was disappointed they brought them back. But delighted at the thought that they would only appear during the 5th Blight years.

Wardens aren't imbued with anything other than the ability to sense Darkspawn and kill Archdemons. That's it. They can't fly, they don't get super-strength, roughly paraphrasing Alistair about Templars, "To anyone that isn't a darkspawn, I'm just a guy in a metal suit."

Aha, I forgot. Makes you immune to the taint, which would be rather useful for Hawke. I'm interested in how they're going to hand-wave that thing, though it didn't seem to be a big problem for the majority of your party in DA:O.

That's a little silly. You want to essentially infect yourself with HIV that has a side effect of allowing you to sense creatures that don't exist and kill the boss of said creatures that also doesn't exist?

Then the question stands, how much freedom are we allowed as Hawke? As Shepard we were pretty much limited to `epic badass military commander-guy` and then we got a slight choice in how lenient or ruthless he was about it. If we really get to play with Hawke, I wouldn´t mind at least the option of joining in return for advanced fighting cababilities vs. darkspawn.

Still, after the blight´s finished the most we´ll see of them is the fleeing stragglers and on the occasional trip into the Deep Roads, so it seems obvious that the game isn´t focused on the darkspwn threat.

The only reason why you want to become a grey warden is because you want to kill an archdemon.

So, no.

If you are facing the criminal punishment Duncan was when he joined the Greys, you would want to join to and it has nothing to do with killing anything.
