I've read the report you can only be human and its hawke. The way this is sounding I'm wondering how Bioware is going to go about with your character speaking. Are they going to use the Mass effect system or are they going to keep using the Dragon Age: Origins system.

The reasons they would use the Mass Effect system.
You play as a human character like shepard and you are going to rise to power as a king. This makes sense, the way it seems your character will have his or her own voice. This would also make sense on how quickly Bioware is making DA 2. ME 2 didn't take that long to make either. About 2 years with the Dialogue wheel system.

The Origins system:
The origins system is for someone who makes their own character from scratch and the Customize your character for your story. What this sounds like in DA 2 is your character has its own choosen surname so this may not be your custome story. This is why they may not be using the Dialogue Wheel. In the old origins system. Bioware stated that it was your character and your story and the dialogue wheel didn't work for it. When its your character and your story They shouldn't have a voice but yours which makes sense.

What is everyones thoughts on these options for the dialogue tree throughout the game?

Well I wouldn't be surprised if they started using the dialogue wheel, but I hope they don't. But the problem with using the old system is that the VA for Hawke will just repeat exactly what we just read, which will be extremely annoying. But the dialogue wheel makes it so that you sometimes don't say what you meant to say. Honestly, VA was a bad idea for this game, lol.

The characters in Origins all have chosen surnames too, Cousland, Aieducan, etc. the player could not change those either.

Only now instead of " Warden" you will be called "Hawke"

"Dragon Age II uses a conversation system similar to Mass Effect's,
where players select paraphrased versions of the dialogue from a wheel.
An icon in the middle of the wheel even illustrates the line's basic
intent (like aggressive or sarcastice), so you can focus more on the
interaction rather than reading and analyzing your dialogue choices."

I am a little irritated... okay, maybe a bit more... but... maybe... it'll work out. It probably won't, but you know. Hope.

I'm really, really not liking their decision to use a conversation wheel.

If your character is voiced, it doesn't matter what dialog set up there is.

DAO had to have longer options BECAUSE your main wasn't voiced.

So we now have a choice between.

A)Shepard in space.

B)Shepard gets medieval.

From what we have, which is very little, so far it's sounds alittle bit like MassEffectMassEffectMassEffectMassEffectMas. Than a CRPG.  If that's the case than it wouldn't be far off to make the claim that old school CRPG's are pretty much dead, at least the quility ones with a budget behind them.

Ok have to say I like the wheel..... IN MASS EFFECT! Why use it for DA2? This is SO dumb. I mean Mass Effect was ALWAYS said to be Shepards story. Thats fine. But what happend to DA's claims to shaping our own story and feeling conected to your characters? They are killing all the selling points fthey tryed so hard to push with Dragon Age...

I LIKE analyzing dialogue choices.  If i wanna be aggressive, I want to be able to choose in what form exactly.
Well, if the make Mass Dragon Effectage 2 I'll have to forget about sequel and settle for DAO and add-ons.

It kind of makes sense if you think about it. How else do you think they could make the game so fast. I mean with the Dialogue wheel. They made ME 2 extremely quickly. They put a lot of man hours into it, but it was made in 2 and a half years. I could see why they would use this system. The old system takes a lot more time and effort and money I think and I have a feeling Bioware is experimenting with this system. If you look at the sales of ME 2 and I mean and they are huge. The system kind of just works and a lot of people were wanting their characters in DAO to have voice. I'm one of those people who is actually indifferent on the manner for now.

Why?

It's not like the 2 systems are really that different.

In DAO, you take the top option to be good, the bottom option to be bad and depending who you are talking to they respond accordingly.

This is no different then top good option and bottom bad option in the wheel system.

If you are complaining about the amount of text, you are getting voice instead of text.

A conversation wheel for DA 2 is an awful idea.
