...  You say you think we're in good hands?  Personally, I cannot equate "good hands" with a partial patch that still falls short on some issues that quite a few players report as bad and takes so long to come out.  Some of the teams in Bioware may feel frustrated that the corporate environment is the way it is.

For every step forward gaming takes in one direction, it seems there's a step backwards somewhere else.

The "good hands" remark was in reference to the path the overall franchise (as represented by DA2, at the moment) is headed.  The work on the corrections for the monumental blunder that is 1.03: that's a different story!  Image IPB

Victor, and others, on the BW team have (finally) acknowledged our pain, and have recently been letting us know what they're doing about it.  It may not be "enough" for all, (or even most) of us, but it's something.  But I have no real reason to think that the pace of the work, or the timing of the various DLC offerings, represent anything but BioWare's best effort.  That those fall short of the wants/needs/desires of any individual player/consumer is something only that person can determine.

I was just expressing my overall high degree of satisfaction (the game continues to provide hours of enjoyment for me) and expectation that it will continue to do so into the future!

Bingo!  I wonder if things like Blackblade will be fixed.  "While we wish we could have fixed these issues to the community’s satisfaction, we are unable to do so at this time." implies maybe in a next patch they will.  I'd guess most would rather be told, yes or no.  Makes it easier for people to decide whether to wait or not.

Today is July 9, so I assume they sent the patches for the consoles out for certification today.

@  patch details:

meaning the console game owners will still be unable to benefit from many
already existing (community) fixes because they are limited to the pc platform
and not  included in the upcoming patch.

Heck, despite the various hw platforms we are one community
- a community wich helped out BioWare with components of
official Neverwinter Nights oc patches when BioWare lacked
both time and resources.

I really hope this is just due to a patch size limitation.

Thanks for the update.

I'm curious though, is Jowan's Intentions a bugged quest that hasn't been fixed yet but is meant to be playable? Or was it meant to be removed from the game and you guys missed the trigger?

What about the severe and gamebreaking processor lag & slowdown issue when facing multiple enemies, introduced by the 1.03 patch?

This pernicious bug makes it impossible to issue commands to your party in a timely fashion in such battles, even on the most powerful PC's. DA patched to 1.2 did not have this problem.

I'm a bit lost here... On one hand Victor said they cannot fix the Sentinel/Vigilance/Blackblade issues due to various limitations but on the other hand he said they just won't be fixed "at this time".

So... uh... can we expect that these issues might be fixed "someday" or do we simply have to accept them?

now just to wait for the release...(three weeks later), hope that it will be released next week.

Edit: I noticed that the corruption is only meant for 360? PC version that gets the corruption also isn't going to be fixed?

It means the day of the news update, not the day they sent the patch and not the day of release.

They didnt mention it because they didnt fix it...

I'm gonna 'LOL' so hard it they left the game in that state.

I wish I could find it, but there is a very good explanation in one of the ME posts about Microsoft patch size limitations by Jesse. If I remember, a patch can't be over 4 megs. My guess is that the Sentinel Armor and other fixes might come in the next DLC, since those can be larger.

Edit: Here is the official post, this was regarding the small text on the xbox.

There have been some offline questions as to the technical difficulties
involved. Basically, the technical reason is that Xbox doesn't
guarantee that you have a hard drive, therefor there is a very very
limited patch size supported, which is less then 4 megs as mandated by
Microsoft Certification (the group that decides if we can ship a game on
Xbox360 or not).

Also, after reading the thread again, it getting patched in DLC is out, because DLC can't patch existing content.

Here is the thread for anyone that wants it: http://social.biowar...ndex/1081158/6.

PS. Bioware, fix the horrible search engine. I had to use google to find the old thread.

I think they should do that again. 30% or so of the Mods I use are gameplay Fixes.
If I remember correctly, the PC Version of DA:O had been held back for 1/2 a Year or so to wait for the Consoles. Still we got a Game with loads of Things that had (and still have) to be patched. Not to mention that a few working Aspects were broken after Patches prior to 1.03 and not yet fixed.
When I read the Notes of ME 1&2's Patches I usually think: never had this issue... does not concern me... But I install them anyway.
With DA:O Patches it is the complete opposite: they would be very worthy of Installation if they didn't break the damn game!
I don't see me buying the Sequel if its "Origin" is still messed up.

Limitations? Is it really technical?

I won't rile on the issues that won't be solved. Whatever the reason those aren't solved, it's better to get a patch out as soon as possible so that people can have an hope to play their game decently (with the memory leaks/drivers issues possibly solved) than continuing to waste further time trying to solve EVERYTHING in one go.
So good choice there. hopefully this won't be the last patch, and some of those issues will be solved at a later date.

There's one thing, though, that I continue to find extremely jarring.
I don't remember My PC being sold by Microsoft or Sony, and I don't see the "games for windows live" logo anywhere on the game.
So why in the world PC users (that suffer the worst problems) have to wait for Sony and Microsoft tio certify a patches that have nothing to do with the PC?

What happened to the promise that console development would have never influenced the development of the PC version (I and others have asked tyhis question so many times that we could go printing it on T-shirts, but never received a real response)?

Seriously, we're kinda tired of waiting here, especially when the wait isn't necessary nor warranted. if for some arcane reason it is, then do tell us why.

(Awakening) Silverite Mine Issues
Some players have experienced a situation where it is possible to enter the Silverite Mine in the Wending Wood early by picking the lock to the door (despite the lock initially appearing to be impossible to pick) prior to completing the quest with Velanna. Due to technical limitations, we will be unable to patch this issue and as such we wish to communicate to players to avoid this situation.

Entering the Silverite Mine early may result in loss of some inventory as well as broken plot flags due to prior quests not being completed properly. Normally, the door will unlock after fully resolving the encounter with Velanna and the player should not attempt to enter the Silverite Mine before then.
-------------------------------------

Like many of you, I also ran into the dreaded Silverite Mine bug. However, I'm pretty certain I resolved the encounter with Velanna before entering the mine. I don't recall picking and entering early and the door was opened normally.

I didn't really enjoy Awakening all that much so I think I'll stick with patch 102a forget about Awakening. I'm pretty tired of the bug fest this game has become and EA has pretty much lost a customer. DA2 will have to wait until I see some reviews and bug reports before I bother with it. If it is ANYTHING like Awakening at all, I'm just not buying. Period. Pretty disappointing overall, particularly the length of time to fix some of these bugs.

That was my last point, exactly.  DA:O has been uninstalled for some days now.  A proper fix for basic (to the player) stuff might persuade me back someday.  But now?  I'm off Bioware stuff.

I have actually gone back to NWN2.  Better the devil I know.....

Very happy to read that the patch is close, and that it fixes the most gamebreaking bugs. The crashing has kept me away from the game for a long time and I really miss it.

However; I am surprised and disappointed to see that it doesn't seem fix any of the silly dialogue errors at the end of the game. It is so frustrating when everyone thinks SPOILER-> that Alistar is King when he is not and all the other things you can read about in Qwinns fixpack description SPOILER END. Hopefully the fixpack will be compatible with 1.04 also.

Some questions to Bioware:
1) Will you continue fixing bugs now, or is this supposed to be the final patch?
2) If you are still fixing bugs, will we still get a weekly update on the progress?
3) Why do PC gamers have to wait when EA has accepted it? I think the PC version has the most serious bug with the crashing, so that is a good reason for giving that an earlier release date.

Uh, the game's been out less than a year. Why would they quit with only three patches out and lots more to do? They have more DLC coming out, and I'll bet you a dollar that future DLC will introduce even more bugs to patch over, even with Dragon Age 2 on the way.

I stopped playing DA due to the huge number of CTD's I was experiencing. There seems to be no mention of this in the patch at all. Was there some other fix for these that I missed? (I tried the memory fix and that did not work.)

Great patch, but I was hoping Shapeshifters would get a bit of a buff! They're so weak and not competitive :(
