They already said the combat would be the same.

They did?  That should dispell any fears about this becoming a Mass Effect game.

Just a bunch of chicken littles claiming the sky is falling.

Bioware has never abandoned a system that works and what players like.

Are you implying ANYONE liked the combat system?  That's a laugh.  If they're going to keep the same ****ty system, I'd like it to be somewhat balanced and meaningful rather than making it feel like I'm wasting my time if I roll as anything other than a dual-wielding warrior.

hmmm....maybe it's just not a game for your style. changing style to suit your needs would result in alienating thousands who like the style. imagine if we all came to the forum for a fps game and said we wanted a rpg style of combat. hmmm...turn based fps. now that sounds like a steaming pile of crap. in a rpg, turn based sounds great.

Link. Last I checked they were ignoring all questions about combat.

Me, and tons of other people loved the combat system.

Also, if you feel that anything other than a dual wielding warrior is a waste, you were awful.

I agree. There are many who loved the combat system. And btw I think a dual-wielding warrior where on the weaker side when it came to defence. I have no problem playing as a Mage och Rouge.

dual wield warriors were great. it seemed to me that mages, dual wield warriors, and sword and shield warriors were the best to have.

Everyone loved the combat system... on the PC. You know, the PROPER version.

People need to stop thinking the PC version is the "proper" version, or the "real" version, or the "only" version worth getting.

Seriously. PC Elitism gets old.

i understand your distaste for pc elitism, but da was designed for the pc and it was ported to consoles near the end after ea bought bioware. for years this was a pc only title. it's the reason the release was in november instead of march last year. it's also the reason the shale dlc is available. it was cut and added as dlc once they had the time after the game was delayed. those of us who like shale are very happy the game was delayed to port to consoles. :D

Yeah, I know. It was PC only for a long time.

I'm just tired of PC-Elitists thinking they've got it made and everyone else is below them.

The combat was solid and tactical in DA. I hope Bioware will keep the tactical pause-based combat, but also have an option for the player to fight in real time, utilizing their own skills and quick thinking.

Blasphemy to some of the traditionalists, I know. I'm not asking for hack and slash style here, just something with a little more flair.

well, the whole point of the pause feature is so people who don't like pausing don't have to use it and those who like it can use it. it used to be all out real time or turn based combat only. the pause feature harmonizes both so you can have both in the same game.

well, i do prefer these kinds of games on pc, but sometimes the better version of a game is on the console, usually when the console version is ported to pc. i'm hopeful combat stays as is. there are plenty of rpgs that have gone the more action route with button mashing. there are very few games that utilize the da style combat anymore. dragon age proved there is still a market for it, so i hope bioware will continue to produce their rpgs in this way. i know supposedly the pc version of da2 will still be strategic combat with pause. if this is true, i'm happy.

Can you elaborate more on that? I'm not really sure what you mean, something like choreographed combat or more visual spell effects on lower level abilities? (spells like Lightning Bolt, Stonefist, Winter's grasp)

I can elaborate

he thought the dumbing down of the RPG elements in ME2 was perfectly acceptable for the faster more shiny twitch combat they brought in game!

Javier is exactly opposite of what RPG fans want

Always has been

Rpg fans come in many diffrent shapes and sizes. To claim that Javier wants the exact opposite of what rpg fans want is incorrect. Unless you speak for all rpg fans, which couldnt be the case since i agree with Javier.

DAO was pretty much just facerolling and you could beat anything. The only fight that requires any type of thinking was Flemeth. Hopefully they make things a little more challenging and the gameplay more interesting.

You really think so drasill. My party was really heavily armed and amroured at the time so we beat her fairly easy. Just tanked the b****. Lost Oghren in the process though...good man.

So we should just try to forget how dismal the consoles versions were, so as to not hurt your feelings? Face it, we had the bestest, most awesomest and smexiest version.

And we deserved it. :innocent:

what i really want is the fighting animations to be more like kotor, when it actually looked like a real fight was happening, with it not relying on you just swinging your sword in the same pattern despite what the enemy did, i want it to look like Im really figging. (Im not saying the animations in origins were terrible but they didn't feel as lifelike as i want in this game)

Hm...Mass Effect 2 was Gears of War with branching dialog, so Dragon Age 2 will be God of War with braching dialog?!

It's more likely than you think!

sadly i know.

Not to say i want it to happen or if it does i will buy the game at 60$ but if it happens (Dragon age of war) it better be more well done than ME2+Gears of war cross over. sye

I thought the DA:O combat system was ok, but I would like a lot more control, at least for the PC version.

From what I understand PC combat is the same, but they're tweaking the console combat so it works better with the controller. I have no source on this mind you, just what I've heard.

I was hoping for an assassins creed sort of thing. You feel like a badass in that game especially when you get a good string of combos going. But I want them to keep the pause/play as well. Maybe that would be more centered around mages.

@Original poster: BioWare has stated that combat on the PC will remain 'largely' the same. Which is a bunch of marketting BS in the end, but that's all we've gotten.

@PC vs. Console DAO: PC version was better, hands down. Mods and the Toolset. A patch of two without having to wait a good couple months. Combat difficulty was reduce in the console versions as well to compensate for their poorer technical performance due to their aging hardware.

@Twitch vs. Traditional: There are more than enough twitch games to be played--Assassin's Creed, The Witcher, ME/ME2, Dynasty Warriors. If you want it so much, go play those. DA2 combat *should* be a natural extension of DAO's, not a switch from a standard RPG system to an action RPG system.

Also, if you want to feel like your character is 'doing' something, play a mage. Make a crowd of people explode from Walking Bomb. It's glorious.

P.S. BioWare has shown that they're quite bad at 'balancing' classes, and it is a singleplayer game, so I wouldn't get your hopes up. If anything, they should just make each class usable and powerful in combat and let the min-maxers quibble over who is two percent more powerful than anyone else.

It makes me laugh how most the people who like twitch games are on console considering a controller is terrible in comparison to a mouse for twitch movements. Not saying one is overall better than the other just stating the obvious that you can be faster and more precise with a mouse than a analog stick.
