Ok, but when I (as a police officer in your example) walk up to my good friend/partener/squadmate/etc, he doesn't say "What's up Officer?" he says "(Hawke!) How are you doing?" vague doesn't work when we're supposed to be party members/squadmates/etc.

No, Cousland is a name. Aeducan is a name. It's already present in the game.Rubbish Hero wrote...

Right, so I'm going to walk up to my girlfriend and say, "Hey girlfriend! Lets go to the beach."
"You know, I've been really wanting to talk to you, girlfriend."
"GIRLFRIEND! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!? A MIDGET!? REALLY!!!?"
"For God's sake girlfriend, get that.....that thing out of your mouth. It looks horrid."

Exactly. They could've scripted it so that people referred to the PC by their last name which never changed, but nope.
Yet that's fine with these haters. But Hawke isn't.

Dunno, I think Hawke is a pretty cool name for this char--
Oh, whoops. Wrong Hawke. My bad.

I really liked Dragon Age calling the player "The Warden" because it allowed me to still believe that "I" was that character. Now, if everyone is calling my guy "Hawke", I won't feel like I am the character, but instead I am controlling someone else.
This was my main beef with Mass Effect and why I didn't have near the emotional attachment to the game and characters as I did with Dragon Age.

Might as well name him Maxxx Steel or Spike McAwesome or something.
These for me, and more. It's a very 1980's B-movie action name that one would use if you can't think of a decent name to match the era. It's sounds too cheesy and cliched.

How many times are these used? How many times are you specifically addressed as "Shepard"?
That's right, practically every single conversation.

A police officer doesn't jump 20 feet into the air to drive a blade into a dragons head, it's suspension of disbelieve. The player (you) fills in the gap. Warden is vague, "Shepard" is not, you are specifically playing AS Shepard, a preconceived character with pretty much every gap of player input filled in.. In short, it sucks balls, like you are directing movie scenes than actually role playing a a character. You are role playing as Uwe Boll.

I'm going to address the bolded section first, because I feel this is important. A police officer risks his life every day to keep ungrateful motherf***ers like you safe. What they do is more important than any videogame character period, because out there (ya know, in the real world) you don't have a respawn/load last save/checkpoint button.
As for the rest of your post, just because my character's name is "Shepard" or "Hawke" or "Princess stabbity" doesn't take away from the fact that I still decide what kind of a person s/he is, what motivates him/her, how s/he'll react to a certain situation. A rose by any other name still smells just a sweet.

How exactly am I ungrateful? Police officers can jump 20 feet into the air and sink a blade into a
Dragons head? That not suspension of disbelieve but actually reality? I'm failing to see exactly how this point being made makes me in anyway insulting to police officers or why you should feel enititled to take offense. In short, this reply is nonsense and I am correct. Let's move on.
Also, please don't call other users the F word, it's very rude. Especially when I have shown such great respect.

Comparing law enforcement officers to fictional heroes is about as bad as comparing the S.A.S to the Marines in Halo.

I compared description to specifics as well as taking into account the medium when qeastioned about it. This isn't disrespectful nor a direct reality to reality comparison. If police officers not jumping 20 feet into the air to kill dragons is offensive, by all means, please take it up with your local council.
