On my next play-through, my Shepard will be a spacer and I have a question about her mother. Would Hannah Shepard have fought in the First Contact War? If so, I imagine she'd not be too fond of turians.

That was thirty-six years ago. I doubt it, she was aboard the SSV Enstein during the Blitz though.

Which means like a good mother she should hate batarians.

IIRC Shepard is 29 years old in Mass Effect 1. So wouldn't that put her mother in the military during the First Contact War, or am I misunderstanding something?

It's possible. She'd have to be at least 54 in the first game (54 assumes that she was 18 at first contact and enlisted that year as well). Remember that medicine has advanced by that point too. She could very well be older than that and still be serving, seeing as the average human can expect to hit 130.

also according to the novels, being 40 years old was akin to being and looking like you were in your mid 20s our time.
