I'm sick of having to listen to strawman arguments.

That was satire. Wasn't really an argument of any kind.

My mistake, I really can't tell between sarcasm and sheer stupidity most of the time.  Kindly make it more obvious that you're being sarcastic next time to avoid unnecessary squabbles.

Or they could just make Rogue's more available before Leliana.

Don't know how annoying it was doing half the Origins/Ostagar and every single person that joined your party was a Warrior/Mage. Why not make sure that the player always has a Rogue in their party with lockpicking? Sure went out of their way to give us Mages but not Rogues.

arent there only 2 recruitable mages in Origins?

2 mages, 2 rogues, 4 warriors, and 1 dog. The ratio is off a bit so I think everyone just wants a little more variety in who they can choose to come with them.

The ratio isn't off.  It's logical that there would be twice as many warriors than assassins or mages.

Woohoo, my rogue wants that too.  Backstabbing with lightning bolts and stuff.

Why don't Mages just do everything? i play as a Mage that will one day become a living God..... where is the Arcane Warrior for DA 2?

agreed. NEed a spell for the lock picking and a certain amount of strength to beable to break locks this would make sense and keep the game play smooth.

Solution: DONT BRING A DAMN ROGUE IN YOUR PARTY.

Problem solved.

or you could do what i did in one playthrough. i had a "rouge" who had level 4 lockpicking, but with really high strength and dexterity, so it was basically a dualweilding warrior who can also pick locks.

Hopefully they'll be a mod to fix this. (Or at least one that automatically opens all chests).

One can hope, though it'll probably have to be a mod again.  They seem rather set on lock picking being a rogue only ability.  :(

Or at least make it so the enemies don't do damage so I won't have to heal.

I would only support this if it was implemented a la NWN2. Where "lock bash" for martial classes is available but carries the risk of breaking some of the stuff inside the crate. Otherwise its not fair to rogues who put multiple skill points into lockpicking to open everything while warriors and mages do so with little to no investment.

That or make skill trees for mages and warriors where they also have to invest multiple skill points to gain the ability to "bash harder locks" and nothing else. Its only fair

I'm fine with that, as long as I'm able to open locks during the times I'm forced to be without a rogue (damn you Ostagar!).

I didn't so much care about the junk loot, but it was the fact that certain quests required a rogue with lockpicking.

Rogues are not inferior to warriors so why do they get extra utility which equal more money and exp?  Even Skills are geared toward rogues. They are either level based (everyone) or cunning based (rogues only). The City Elf orgin had so many locked chests, all your mother's heirlooms were roguish items. It was like Bioware was trying to tell me my elf warrior was an abomination unto the developers.

I would be okay with lock-bashing if there's a 50% chance of breaking the loot. Otherwise ... what's the point in having it locked?

not sure 50% might be too high but there should be a chance of breaking the loot but I agree that way you can decide if you have a rogue to have lockpicked but I agree wars ->> bash lock and mage --> unlock spell would be great

ANY class could raise their cunning to whatever levels they wanted, sure it helped rogues the most but calling cunning based skills in DAO "Rogue" only is like saying "Persuade" in D&D is a Paladin/Bard only skill becasue no one else has an incentive to point points in CHA.

Also there was a rogue in ostagar but he did not have lockpicking (unless you did the respec mod and respecced him)

Now we know that you will all be disappointed, and that it's highly unlikely to be moddable at release, so why bump this ?

I'm and old schooler, 1st edition dnd. I highly approve of special abilities for classes. I have no problem with not being able to pick a lock or even bash a lock if I don't have a thief. It's simply the price you pay for adding that extra mage or figher to your group.

Warriors and mages CAN pick locks without even spending skill points towards it.....

But once they've picked which lock to open they probably won't be able to open it

I'm aware of that.  The problem is, why should I have to waste points as a warrior when a rogue does not have to?  Ergo, those skills are biased in favor of rogues. Add in lockpicking and trap detection and I find myself wondering what do the lose in exchange for that? Nothing? Well, what do warriors get to compensate? Nothing?

I seem to recall they said that rogues will be the only lockpickers available.

In the vanilla game that guy had lockpicking. After the updates he didn't.  I used to run him through Ostagar before the Joining and open all but the chest by the cliffs in from of Ishal.

Hawke: "Yeah, I just was chasing this blood mage and he used his evil powers to control templars to slow me down. I had no choice but to destroy them with my infinitely superior magical/warrior abilities."

NPC: "Did you capture the blood mage?"

Hawke: "No. He ran through a door and locked it behind him."
