Immersion immersion immersion. Am I going to feel like I am Hawke while I'm playing this game? Is it going to be a vacation from my every day life, getting me out of my head and into his/hers? Or am I going to be watching a movie where I get to direct the fight scenes somewhat and have to click a button every so often? "Cinematic" always makes me cringe. If I want to play an adventure game, I have a huge boner for parkour, I'll go play those; they're way more exciting, to me, than the combat style of ME or DA. If I want to play an RPG... well, it sounds like now I'll be stuck replaying older games and rolling dice like a nerd if I want to RP something.
You know, I could just go watch a movie and not have to click a button to advance, too.
It might be a great game, but it really is starting to sound like Dragon Effect, and I wanted DA2, which, you know, would have improved upon DA:O, not radically changed to resemble other games.
So, that's my big concern. Am I, as generic player X, going to feel like I'm owning Hawke, am I going to be pulled into the character such that his actions are a natural expression, or am I just going to be directing his awesome adventures around Thedas?
This. Characters in The Witcher often look like they were halfway into their default modelling posed, had eyes that stared forever, and look like plastic. I was still far more immersed in it than I ever was in Mass Effect.
At least Mass Effect doesn't have stupid sex cards, to bring down the game's reputation, though.
