So you didn't like Cousland, or Aeducan? Dragon age origins didn't allow you to choose your last name, why would DA2 be any different?Phazor58 wrote...
I would have preferred being able to make my own name.

I really think the only reason the last name is predetermined is so there is something for people to refer to you as, considering you start out as just some nobody refugee that no one cares about at all.

The point being that we had more than one choice. Not to mention that Cousland and Aeducan sound like something from fantasy. Hawke just sounds like I'm a freakin skateboarder.

No, it sounds like a B action movie protagonists name.

well, you couldn't decide your own last name in DAO either, so I don't see what the fuss is about
In DA:O, your last name wasn't really used for anything unless you were a Noble.
In DA2, it's pretty damn obvious they're doing the exact same thing they did with Shepard. Everyone's going to refer to you as Hawke because that's how Bioware has always wrote their dialogue. (Since they can't use Warden anymore)

Cousland is the name of a noble. Hawke is just some refugee probably a commoner. It fits for him to have a less fancy sounding name.
Do a Facebook friend search for "Cousland." Just sayin'.

People aren't arguing over the "less fancy"-ness of it. It's just the obvious unimaginative, poorly thought out, action movie cliche-ness of the name that bothers people. Along with it being difficult to come up with a name that works with Hawke, that isn't inappropriate. Mike Hawke...seriously? Grow up people. ><
