What would you have preferred? Savage? Jones? Manning? Shepard? Fixed first name, undetermined last name?

Cousland. . . as in the human noble gray warden many of us played as.

Hawke sounds good to me. Now I can call myself Sparrow Hawke and spend the next decade wandering around Earthsea. Or the Free Marches. Preferably the former though.

I would prefer to make my own character instead of the same one everyone else shares.

Drop the VA, and allow us to choose our own name.

Hawke is such an anglo-saxon sounding name, that the idea of making an oriental, a latin, a scandinavian, a slavic or any other type is obviously out of the question. Confining, limiting and annoying.

I would like the last name to be "Joe".

well, you couldn't decide your own last name in DAO either, so I don't see what the fuss is about

In DA:O, your last name wasn't really used for anything unless you were a Noble.

In DA2, it's pretty damn obvious they're doing the exact same thing they did with Shepard.  Everyone's going to refer to you as Hawke because that's how Bioware has always wrote their dialogue. (Since they can't use Warden anymore)

They already said that you won't be referred to as Hawke nearly as often as Shepard is called Shepard

There is no Asia, America, Scandinavia or Eastern Europe in Thedas, so Hawke can't be any of those ethnicties.

That's cute, how you think DA2 is still in a stage where this is possible.

This.

And honestly one of the bigger reasons I've not played the Human Noble origin yet is precisely because of how shoe-horned your character already is via last name.  Outside of the nobles, the last name is meaningless and while I'd rather have chosen it, it had no effect for my city elf or human mage.

Id like it if they changed the female name to Raven instead of Hawke. A chick name Hawke just dosent sound right. On topic, I think its cause the name sounds cliche'.Similiar to a lone soldier who is called Wolfe. In DAO, the noble last named is used to refer to your nobility. All the other last names werent really used at all if I remember correct.

Besides when I put a name in front of hawke, I think its a species name or something.

They've already said you'll be called Hawke, just about as much as you were called Warden in Origins.

dunno about that, my male character was called Raven in KOTOR1, before I even knew he was Revan, imagine my surprise, and once again after I realized that others should have long realized who I was
