This is ridiculous. When it comes to the name, what does it matter? You may not like the name Hawke, but pretending that there was any actual depth to even *having* a name in DAO is delusional. Aside from a few references to Aeducan or Cousland, the surnames had no mention, much less the given name. You were still "Warden". Your LIs called you Warden. You could have named your character Aaaaaaa and it would have had as much meaning in-game as a well thought out name you spent hours searching for.
Even if being called Hawke pisses you off, acting like it is such a radical change from being called "Warden" is kind of ridiculous.
I'm with you. If anything, a pre-set name with a completely customizable character might be preferable in some of the LI dialogue. It's so weird to have your LI refer to you as "Warden" sometimes. I go to college, and my girlfriend has never said something like "Student, pick me up at 8:00 tonight". It can feel really unnatural.
Now I'm not saying we should remove character customization options altogether (on the contrary, I think BioWare hasn't done enough in this regard), I'm just saying that we shouldn't pretend that really shallow flavour choices suddenly matter.
