Look before I start I would like to say that Bioware makes quality games. All of them are great games but here is my problem.
Bioware you need to start being honest with your fans about the direction of your games. I mean, all this talk with RPG this and spiritual successor that; and, all that is happening in front of our eyes is how you are slowly slipping into an ACTION/rpg genre. Here is why I say this:
I think you started with the illusion of an RPG with Mass Effect. It's still a great game with RPG elements and customization options but I found the game mostly "actiony." It is still a great game with awsome music. I even bought the soundtrack but I notice a small step towards the "actiony" genre.
Then, Mass Effect 2 came out. Well, you took an even larger step towards the "actiony" place and took out all the meaningful RPG type powers and inserted more TPS type abilities. The game is still great, the quality is great, and the music is great.
Finally, we come to DA2. You had stated several times that DA:O was the "spiritual successor" to the BG series. The game had some minor issues relating to class imbalances, story, and abilities but they could have easily been improved. I noticed many community members complained that it already felt too "actiony" in a mindless sort of way and now I hear DA2 will be getting a new "New Combat Mechanic." This just bugs the hell out of me because I just want you to be honest about the direction you are really heading with your games or at least say what you really mean. I mean is it going to be a real time mechanic or what? Stop beating around the bush.
I am aware that I am jumping to a conclusion but I'm merely observing a pattern in your games and I'm annoyed that you are either 1) in denial of where you are heading with your games or 2) you don't want to scare off your RPG fans.
All I want is some honesty.
