I don't care anything about somebody named Hawke. The name makes me cringe.Calla S wrote...
The fact that people automatically go "hurr durr peasant" is hurting my brain. It's obvious that warrior!Hawke would need to have some military experience. There's a chance mage!Hawke might've escaped from the Tower or been an apostate on the run his/her entire life. Rogue!Hawke might be a traveling pickpocket. The fact of the matter is that we don't know.
Seriously....warrior Hawke, mage Hawke, Rogue Hawke...do you realise how comical/stupid this looks and sounds.

You have made that quite clear. Really.

A name is VERY important for identification of the player with the character, a boring and silly sounding name spoils everything. Plus it's also origins and race.Calla S wrote...
Sweet mother... it's a name. Get off it.
Like I said, limitations are made where they weren't any in DA1.
More limitations=less fun.

Yeah, why can't we play as Tony Blair?AlanC9 wrote...
If you can't handle a traditional English name in a setting where humans from that region have, as you know, traditional English names.... well, all I can say is it sucks to be you.
Or I could play an elf or dwarf....

And if you want to talk about other races, there are other threads for that.

Let me clarify my first point Hawke seems like a name only a kid would think sounds cool to many other people it just seems like a word you added an unnecessary letter to. It could have just been Hawk but then they would add the uneccesary "E".
As you've already been told, Hawke is an old English name. With the E.
I don't especially like the name because it's too famous, actually. It's like naming someone Wellington. OTOH we already have Howe in DAO, and that name should be familiar to both Brits and Americans.
To be honest this is the first time I've been told and if I've been told earlier I probably skipped past the post:whistle:
Anyways now that I know though I'm a bit more indifferent with the name than negative but still indifferent. So now people should also understand that there are people like me who don't know that Hawke is an old english name and probably dislike it for the same reasons I do.

Happily we could choose from 7 surnames. And both of those names above are better than Hawke which sounds silly.AlanC9 wrote...
You couldn't be Blair in DAO either. Just Cousland or Amell for humans.
And if you want to talk about other races, there are other threads for that.

You are forced to play "Hawke" The Peasant though. In DA1 you had a choice from 7 families.
We finally get that "human commoner" origin we missed!

Actually, you could choose between origins. Choosing the origin forced the name.
As for sounding silly... again, sucks to be you.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but are you saying that Bioware should pander to people's ignorance? That's not a good thing is it? E.g. if he was called Hawk instead, you would never have learnt something new.

Yup you're definitely reading me wrong I never said pander to the ignorant I told others that they must understand that some people hate because they are misinformed.
I'm sure if you've been to other forums about DA2 or gaming you'd notice more heavy insulting of simple things like in this case the name Hawke.
This inevitably leads to flame wars with people that don't mind whatever the problem is ends up arguing with the "haters" nothing gets resolved because when it comes to flame wars well it's more insults than trading facts.

Other than for the nobles, the surnames might as well not exist. It was never seen past character creation.

Okay, I guess it's just a communication problem. Indeed, ignorance can breed hatred, which sucks.

Not an actor, but surely one the most powerfull voice in music, with his so particular heavy tone and inspirated lyrics
An exemple from his 35th & last album:

Retour en haut
