David Kaye, but I don't think BioWare uses any talent based in Canada aside from Mr. Meer, do they?

I am praying that whoever the voice actor is, he has a suave and charming kind of voice. Because I can't play a rogue brute. But since that probably won't happen, I hope he doesn't sound that brutish and has a bit of charisma and charm in his voice. And just as long as he doesn't sound like Shepard.

I'd rather they pick someone unknown. If we don't recognize the voice, we will be better able to project ourselves onto the character.

This. :bandit:

Likewise.

And not, absolutely not, anyone who voiced Shepard!  I enjoyed the Mass Effects but they are not the same game and any sort of crossover would be truly jarring :)

Come to think of it: DA2 probably has an immense budget, right?  EA muscle + huge sales for DA:O...  (having seen how high ME2's production values were, I have high hopes here).  I for one think it would be worthwhile to stretch the budget to four full voiceovers, 2 male and 2 female.  It would seriously expand character customisation, which is something that is -- I hope! -- very much at the heart of the Dragon Age concept.

Shepard is recognisably Shepard, more or less whatever you do with him/her at character creation.  I'd like for everyone's Hawke to be as individual as possible, and not recognisable as some iconic, universal "Hawke" character.

Meh, not too big a deal for me. A ton of great fantasy RPG's have had characters speaking only in American accents. I don't remember hearing a single British accent in Mask of the Betrayer. and the VO was just great there.

How about the guy who did the Warden's voice in the Sacred Ashes-trailer?
If not, then Ralph Fiennes.

I wonder how the name "Hawke" will end up being pronounced? Probably just "Hawk" but it could also end up being "Hawk-aye" or "Haw-key" or "Hawk-eye". You never know.

Perhaps Black Whirlwind from Jade Empire for the male Hawke:

Rurrrrrrrrrr!!!! [Happy]

Rawwwrrrrr!!!! [Confrontational]

RURRRRrrrrrr... [Leering]

Also would work with that serious beard Hawke is sporting.

Kaelyn the Dove sounded fantastic, and Gann was voiced by Crispin Freeman, a very experienced voice actor who did a ton of anime work. There's always a hint of sadness and suffering in Kaelyn's voice, like she's exhausted. Gann sounds appropriately seductive, as well. Safiya and Okku weren't as good, but still very solid.

Aside from you maybe not having a personal liking towards American accents in fantasy settings, I'm not sure how you could slam the VO in Mask of the Betrayer. Better than most games, and far better than the OC.

That's kinda unavoidable. I speak with a slight hint of an Eastern European accent, so I guess I can never feel like a character is my own either. Besides, Hawke (god, what a ridiculous name) is a pre-set personality to a certain extent anyways, so you're not exactly going to "feel like it's your character" any more than you felt like J.C. Denton, Geralt of Rivia, The Nameless One, or Commander Shepard felt like "your character".

Male Hawke: Graham Mactavish - played Arl Eamon, but would prefer as he was in the latest Rambo film - 'Come on then you ladyboy aunt!' in predictive text.....

Hawke shouldn't be American, because it'd make no damn sense. He's a human from Fereldan, and they all have British accents there.

One thing I've been wondering is how Bioware are going to deal with regional accents in future games in the Dragon Age series. I mean, Ferelden was based on Britain, so it makes sense that everyone had British accents. Other countries in Thedas seem to correspond with various real-life countries and have the languages/accents to match. But what if Bioware want to set a game in Antiva or Orlais? Will they have all the NPCs speak in English but with Spanish/French accents? Will they speak their own language with English subtitles? What's the deal going to be?

They're sort of getting around it this time as Hawke seems to be from Ferelden so he'll have a British accent, and we have no idea about the Free Marches language/accent so Bioware are free to do what they want with it.
