How about getting rid of the stupid name Hawke, and going for something else. or better yet keep it like the first one,

How is Hawke a stupid name? English is not my native tongue and I'd like to hear why people seem to think it's such a dumb name. It's not like he/she is named Explosion McChainsaw, no?

Hawke seems like a name that a kid would think is cool and even if that's not a reason Hawke can't compete with the other names that have already been made in the previous game.

Too bad Mel Blanc isn't available.

I trust the casting director to make a good choice, based on past games. The major characters have all had great VAs.

Though I will say that if Greg Ellis, Steve Valentine or Steve Blum (doing his Spike Spiegel voice) do male Hawke, I would play a male Hawke. I pretty much always play females otherwise.

David Mitchell. Anyone who has seen Peep Show will know how great an idea this is.

I see. I think this is a rather excessive reaction. Just because a kid would think it's cool, doesn't make it any less cool. Plus, you're not forced to play Hawke like an over-the-top B-movie protagonist.

As for your second point...

Most (human) names in DAO were meaningful (Alistair= "defender of men", Cailan= "child", Duncan= "brown chief" - I'm not making this up, look them up if you want to), but the devs don't know how you'll play your Hawke. So they probably thought, "If we can't give the protagonist a meaningful name, let's at least give them a cool one".
Makes sense to me.

I think people should stop being so elitistic.

You are forced to play "Hawke" The Peasant though. In DA1 you had a choice from 7 families.

Oh my god, this is genius. Hahahaha. I love David Mitchell.

While perhaps not the best idea for Hawke, I'd love to see him as an NPC. He'd make an excellent mage. Or a lazy templar. Or a merchant ala Wade and Herren.

Yeah I can actually picture him as a disgruntled apostate who hates the way his life has turned out. Would make a brilliant character.

Since the peasant Hawke comes from a village, the actor voicing him should be somebody who already voiced village folk, anybody got some ideas?

A brilliant character indeed! In fact, a disgruntled apostate voiced by David Mitchell has just jumped up to the top of my "characters I'd like to have in my party in DA3" list, since they no doubt have all the party members squared away by now.

Haha it would be so amazing to find out that he has signed up to voice a character in DA2 though, and I honestly wouldn't care what character that was because he could play any role!

Oh god, if I find out that David Mitchell's signed up to voice a character for DA2, I might die of glee. He has just the voice for it, too. Now I'm going to be keeping an ear out for him! Argh, do want, do want!

Let me clarify my first point Hawke seems like a name only a kid would think sounds cool to many other people it just seems like a word you added an unnecessary letter to. It could have just been Hawk but then they would add the uneccesary "E".

Now yes the reaction to this is rather excessive but Hawke is in no ways "cool" so if the devs couldn't give a meanigful name then why not make up one that sounds better than something a kid would think up of.

What about the actress who voiced Ruby in the game Wet, who played Faith in the Buffy/Angel series? She might be a good VA for the female Hawke.

Someone with an energetic voice with comments like "The more they try to kill me, the more I make them cry for mercy"  Well, if she can do a solid British accent anyway.

And Michael Dorn voicing a companion, like maybe a new Sten like character.  When acting as Worf he gave some great one liners, would be fun to have that kind of character again, with the Dorn/Worf charm - "What do I have to do to ensure that I'm telling you the truth?"  "Die.  Or scream in pain, either works"

I just imagined her voice with that line and I agree.

By the way her name is Eliza Dushku.

Alright, this is just downright classism. Does Hawke being a peasant prevent you from plaing him/her any differently?
Plus, we may well discover he/she is actually of important descent (dun dun dunnnn!).

Yes, I dislike playing human peasants with lame names.
As for the second part-how original<_<

Well, it is a surname. Is Hawk (no e) a surname? I genuinely do not know. Even if it is, I think it actually sounds more kiddy than Hawke (with an e) :D.

Oh, well, I suppose this is subjective. I for one think Hawke is cool.

As you've already been told, Hawke is an old English name. With the E.

I don't especially like the name because it's too famous, actually. It's like naming someone Wellington. OTOH we already have Howe in DAO, and that name should be familiar to both Brits and Americans.

Well, what if I disliked playing city elves, dalish elves, dwarven nobles, dwarven casteless, mages and human nobles and instead wanted to be a qunari lapdancer from Orlais? I mean, sometimes you have to start from the premise the devs give you.
And I didn't say Hawke being the descendant of some funky lost king would be original:wizard:^_^

We don't even know if he is a peasant yet. All we know is that he starts as a refugee in Lothering, he could have come from any background and my guess is that you can choose what that is. I wish people would stop coming to conclusions based on little evidence.

That would be wide  a very selection of things you dislike.  I dislike cutting content that was already present in DA1.

I mean, sometimes you have to start from the premise the devs give you.

Why is that premise smaller and more limited than the one in DA1. And why is this name so lame?

The fact that people automatically go "hurr durr peasant" is hurting my brain. It's obvious that warrior!Hawke would need to have some military experience. There's a chance mage!Hawke might've escaped from the Tower or been an apostate on the run his/her entire life. Rogue!Hawke might be a traveling pickpocket. The fact of the matter is that we don't know.
