I like to walk in games... I find it silly that developers think its a great idea that everyone would be running headlong down a dark unexplored cave lol.

Seriously though (or maybe more seriously), is there a way to make it so that all your party members walk when you do? Its really distracting to have them dark up next to you, then fall behind then to run forward again.. >.>

I know you can switch them to walking if you have them selected, but they just go back to running if you switch to your main.

If there is nothing, I would like to request a mod... or be told how to make one do this.

You can turn walking on with the numpad / key.

Umm... Im aware of the walk function. What I am asking for (perhaps it wasnt clear), is the ability to have everyone in your party walk when the character the player controls is set to walk.

Did you try selecting each individual party member and ordering them to walk?

I tried it doing that as I noted in the OP, and I tried it using that party button that lets you select all members at once.

Fun to answer questions you've already provided answers for, isn't it Aisling? haha

Anyway, to answer your actual question... no, not without a mod that will make them walk all the time, probably even in combat.

Unless there's an option in the tactics screen to tell them to walk when not in combat. I don't remember seeing one and I can't look right now as I'm at work.

Yes, this could be modded in, though it would be somewhat difficult and effectively replace the relatively efficient engine-side code with a loop of movement commands.

Why isn't there simply a flag of some type for all the characters that, when set, tells the engine that they're walking? Or running if the default state is walking.

Would then be a very simple matter of calling a script that sets the flag, lets call it NPC_IS_RUNNING, to true, or false, for all party members when you hit the button that tells your character to walk instead of run. You could then have another script that gets called at the start of combat that checks to see if NPC_IS_RUNNING is true. If it is, do nothing and drop out of the script. If false, save the current state - NPC_WAS_RUNNING = false, set NPC_IS_RUNNING to true and drop out. At the end of combat call a script that checks the saved state variable and if it's set to false, set NPC_IS_RUNNING back to false.

One of the first things I did when playing this game was to turn off the auto movement. Are you saying that even with auto-movement off, iff you select the whole party in walk mode they don't walk? I guess I'll have to try it next time I play.

This would be a nice modification. It's not big deal, but it's a little silly to see the current "stop & go" motion of your companions while you are walking :P

What is the point of walking anyhow?

We roleplaying nerds/geek/fanatic just love to get totally immersed in the game world, so running everywhere break the suspension of disbelief a little. I also loved to walk in Oblivion, for example, when I was in a sightseeing mood.

sounds like a pretty ridiculous mod, id rather have modders working on more exciting things than walking

It may not be your cup of tea, but for a lot of us roleplayers it means a lot to have this to increase immersion. I for one would love to have a mod like that.

sounds like a pretty ridiculous post, i'd rather have members posting with more constructive things than trolling

Mostly what Lucas78 said, but with less snarkiness. ( :P ) I like to walk because the game is really quite beautiful. I dont run everywhere, but I dont walk everywhere either. I run when the situation demands speed over a leisurely stroll. I dont know why developers of games dont make walking the default and just make it a little faster... too much hurry hurry gets old after while.

Also walking tends to lengthen a game somewhat. Think the game is too short? Walk whenever possible (obviously you wouldnt continue walking when enemies are firing arrows at you), and you will find that the game last longer.

I think I would rather have "click to move" put on a toggle rather than a group walk/run toggle. >.>

Also, running tends to do things like get you into nasty situations unprepared (I had Genlock rogues pop up in the middle of my party while on the Tainted Blood and Warden Archives quests several times when I ran through a seemingly clear area, whereas if I had walked, they'd have "decloaked" somewhere out in front of me).

What I'd like to be able to do is set formations when moving, like the old Baldur's Gate. Granted it's less of an issue with the smaller party sizes here vs. Baldur's Gate, but I'd love to be able to, say, have them move in file with my tank in front and weaker units behind, or progress down a narrow corridor with three melee characters in the front line while an archer or mage lays down a creeping barrage of fireballs out ahead of them.

A mod that would implement walking for the whole party would be great!

in the dragon age world, everyone runs. If you're roleplaying as a walker, you're obviously not in character.

duh.

While the commentary is interesting guys, try not to lay judgement on folks when they ask for stuff.

As Kendaric mentioned, it may not be your cup of tea, but clearly it's SOMEONE'S since it was asked in the first place.

I'd definately like to see this as a working mod. If I walk, my team walks. I'm the master, theyre... my team.

I would absolutely love such a mod. I still can't believe that they included a walk function without it actually working on companions.
