This is featured in many games. What are your thoughts on it? Should it have any place in the Mass Effect series?

Personally, I think it looks cool, but as someone who has an above-average knowledge of firearms and shooting, I know that it is extremely ineffective. If it were to be in the mass Effect series, I think that the ability to dual wield firearms effectively could only be given to characters that are capable of independently targeting with each weapon, as a result of superior hand/eye coordination or other characteristics.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, I think that it only looks good when the weapons being carried are no larger than SMG's - dual wielding shotguns/rifles/machineguns/crew-served weapons just looks inane or nonsensical.

I think it's only cool in Halo, otherwise it always turns out to be really silly.

Dual wielding has existed for quite a while though, (Hong Kong action cinema, Tomb Raider, to name a few things off the top of my head that feature it). Out of curiosity, why do you thinks it looks good in Halo, but not other settings?

Halo has supersoldiers wearing an AI equipped superarmor and has gun scopes linked to helmet targeting systems. Still doesn't explain the reloading mechanic though.

It looks more polished and not as silly/cartoonish/anime-ish as other games and I can't think of a another game that did it as well.

Maybe with pistols, but it'd have to be a researchable or earnable upgrade, rather than something just everyone can do.

Definately not with SMGs. You don't need to with SMGs anyway.

Dual wielding is silly - it hurts accuracy a lot and wastes ammunition like crazy. I hope Bioware stays far, far away from it.

No because the Military Tactics in Mass Effect are based on the real world just augmented by super technology, in the real world duel wielding is silly at best and you look like a fool and you can't hit a damn thing.

I seem to recall that Bioware once said Shepard is a professional soldier and professional soldiers DO NOT dual wield.

is theelement slayer saying that dual-wielding two powerful shotguns that have high recoil with just one shotgun makes sense in MW2 and L4D? i find it silly and unrealistic on how powerful it is even though it was already really powerful. but thats just me and i might be a shotgun hater

Oh its no doubt silly and unrealistic but look at the market they are selling those games to, and also both games are already unrealistic enough. Im not saying that doing it is in any way realistic, Im just saying I can kind of see why they went that route on those games

How many times is this going to come up? Dual wielding is retarded I can't see it occuring anywhere in the real world. In fact I think a person dual wielding would be easier to shoot than one not doing it. First because the person dual wielding is probably not even close to hitting anything and second because the other guy might find out that whoever's dual wielding doesn't know how to use a weapon or much less aim.

If dual wielding is so old and overused why do you want to make something original just like all the other games. Go play MW2 and dual wield desert eagles if that's what you want but keep it out of Mass Effect.

NO! It's one of the reasons I hated about Halo 2 and 3.

You do realize that this is not the real world, yes? This is a world in which objects can have their mass changed at the drop of a hat and there is sound in space. Yes, I think dual wielding would fit perfectly here.

You'll get a lot of reactionary posts against this... nearly all of them knee-jerk reactions stemming from what's popular to say within the anti-shooter crowd. The bottom line is that dual-wielding in this video game is something that could be done with tact and intelligent gameplay design. I can definitely see this being a class-specific skill with real risk/reward factors. The armor we've seen in the ME series is arguably more advanced than anything in Halo, yet you'll still find fanboys trying to argue "logically" against dual-wielding. In the end, the backlash BioWare would see from egotistical fanboys is probably not worth it. All you have to do is look at the keywords in their arguments (i.e. "retarded", "silly", "no", "halo", "john woo") to see how unimaginative these people are.
