Dragon Age 2 Ruined. Why Bioware?

Lesser option in character's editor? ****ing dialogue wheel? Ray Muzika who declaired they want more action and more dinamic combats (making battles easier instead of improving the tactical part of the fights, I guess)? The feeling of having a Dragon Effect instead of DA2?Sidney wrote...

It could still be a good game and in fact I like ME, but I want to see a classic rpg game, possibly with less fightings than DAO that in some parts had too many combats (Deep Roads anyone?). Why this change of route? Why BioWare seems to want to dumb down DA despite of what the community thinks and desires (like they already done making TOR when everyone wanted KotOR III)?
What exactly are they dumbing down? From what we know the only thing less is that when you build your character instead of Elf>Human>Dwarf you get Human....I don't think that's a major step back.
From what we know here: http://social.biowar...1/index/3064634 that's about it.
Mass market is ruining rpgs, and the trend seems to continue in this direction with DA2, just because EA want to make more money, I assume.
I'll be happy to be wrong, but my first impressions are these and are
not so good. Of course I'll wait more news and gameplay video before having a more complete judgement of the game, but so far until now this is what I think.

Also, we know they are keeping the PC combat the same basically, but are trying to make a system for the consoles that is designed for them instead of a modified port.
All this talk about dumbing down makes me curious - do you all think you are some kind of elite that is inherently superior to other gamers?

Yes, that means that you won't be able to select Hawke's race. However, just because that one aspect of Hawke's backstory is set doesn't mean BioWare is eliminating character creation. You can still choose your class and customize your appearance. When we visited BioWare's studio, we only saw (and heard) the male Hawke in action, but the team promises that players can select either gender for the character.
sounds like a jrpg to me, great job bioware. You not only went back on your roots of Baldurs gate, you doused those roots with gasoline and lit them on fire.

Uh yes, we do have enough info on the game to tell if its going to be a failure. Its looks like fable for christ sake, They want us to play as some guy called hawke, Uh hello? have you seen the Mass effect dialog? Terrible. They have cut out alot of choices for us. Im not going to say the game is so terrible! but it will be nothing like Origins, the game so many of us loved to begin with.

If you have enough information to tell that it is going to be a failure, show us. Bioware has not provided that much information, so if you have secret information, please tell us. As for what you have stated:
No, it doesn't look like Fable unless "development over time" is the exclusive province of Fable.
Hawke? So what. Why is that worse than playing Aeducan or Cousland?
The use of a dialogue wheel like in ME2 does not mean that the implementation in the new game will be the same, or even similar.
The only choices I have heard they have cut out are the Racial ones.
So far, it looks like a game largely similar to Origins with a few significant changes in order to shift the focus to a different aspect of their fictional world, and to try to see how well some things will work.

I hope in return they give the humans more options to tailor their look i.e. hairstyles, eye color, etc..etc..than they did in DA:O.
That and please no dog collars on the female Hawkes leather armor (rather have them were the male skins of armor, I'll trade off breast cleavage for no leather collar).
And while I'm at it better looking gear for rogues in general, warriors had a good mix of different armor skins, hoping better leather skins this time around, maybe in the vein of Assasin Creed looking gear specially for the Assasin build if applicable.

Take a look at Planescape: Torment, which is hailed as the best game ever by many; it had predetermined protagonist, whose alignment and class you decided by the way you played the game. While more options is almost always better, it might not be in this case. Instead of making 6 storylines, they can focus on one and make it as good as they can. Naturally no fully voiced game can have the same amount of great, branching dialogue Torment had though (especially with the ME-esque response wheel).

But my main concern is March 2011 release? Seriously, Dragon Age was in announced att E3 2004, that's development for atleaset 5 and a half year, not counting pre announcement development. Less than a year and a half for the sequal sounds like we will have a lot shorter length. It will probably still be good but how epic will it feel?

This is also exactly why so many are beyond irritated. It removes almost everything that made Origins a great roleplaying game and make it into Mass Effect--which is not a roleplaying game. Great for Mass Effect fans, but very bad news for people who aren't, and who loved Origins.XX55XX wrote...

Here's why DA2 will be awesome:
1. They are keeping the same gameplay mechanics from DAO in the PC version.
2. Hawke will be fully voiced.
3. Dialogue wheel! No more reading your own dialogue!
4. No more good vs. evil bull. I'm glad that BioWare are trying to deviate from their formula.
I am very satisfied so far.
One wonders how and why they made Origins in the first place, instead of the medieval shooter they seem to be aiming for now.
I can't help but notice that the vast majority of people complaining about complaining, who seem fine with all the changes and unconcerned about the affect on roleplay, are people that I've never seen on the Dragon Age boards. And I can't help but wonder if that's because most are Mass Effect fans rather than Dragon Age Fans.

Medival shooter?
How are you making that conclusion?
keeping the same gameplay mechanics from DAO in the PC version.
How is "no good vs evil" bad? Its way overdue that someone tried something new. Well there was that game Planescape that tried the same thing... Try convincing me that game did not have roleplaying,
Full voice? How does that make it less of a roleplaying game?
And the wheel is just a game mechanic, it has NOTHING to do with the games roleplaying possibilities. When you see it in action, and they realy have removed roleplaying. Then I'll agree with you.

Yay for KB/mouse and strategic combat staying.

2. Hawke will be fully voiced.
That could be for better or worse. It depends on who they pick as a voice-actor - and how well the voice-actor delivers the lines.
Of course, the dialogue for the voice-actor has to be well-written, too...
3. Dialogue wheel! No more reading your own dialogue!
Well, they could keep the dialogue wheel option and then they could force us to read the lines.
Honestly, not every game needs the lead character I'm playing to be voice-acted by someone. I mean, it was pretty cool change of pace in DAO that my character was not voice-acted at all.
If the dialogue and prose in the game is deep, detailed, descriptive, and fantastic to the lengths of say an extremely well-written book - think like say Planescape: Torment for the PC - the game might be better off with voice-acting lines here and there, when Hawke speaks. Of course, then again, if they wanted to, w/ this new framed narrative structure DA2 has going on, the prose that the player would normally read could be voice-acted and narrated by a voice-actor. *shrug*

I wasn't answering point by point, so yeah, I like the DA morality system. As for the wheel, and objections to the changes in the dialogue system, and why full voicing is bad for roleplay, that's been explained over and over again here. You can't possibly not know what I'm talking about. It's been detailed in every thread on this forum. That or you aren't reading posts except to make like your namesake.Ninjatroll wrote...
