The fade in DAO would have been better if it had actually BEEN a puzzle, as it was it was essentially just a long series of collection quests running between zones, it didn't require any thought.

Also I'm surprised no one has has brought up Arl Foreshadow, if that can be believed it appears the fade will play at least some role in DA2, I'll see if I can find it and edit later as I don't remember it word for word.

Edit:
Books to pursue for future endeavors.

Lost countenance: Ferelden to Orlesian Phrase Book  -Must
not offend the potential landlords

Raising
Spirits: Offsprings and the Fade-Terrible two's indeed!

Forest Fall: Truth and Legend in the
Search for Arlathan-Survivors? poppycock!

The Origin of Theses: Knowing more than
Everyone without Looking Like a Jackass-Never get the time to
read this. Maybe there's a stage play?

The first one would be Awakenings,  meaning "offspring and the Fade" would be for DA2, unless there will be a DLC that covers that.

I liked the Fade, but a friend of mine had an interesting point on why some people don't.

It's partially the puzzles, if you're not a fan of those, and partially the look. But she said that for her, the most frustrating element was that if you're not a mage, there's no "tutorial" for the Fade. You get a quick "HERE, SHAPESHIFT!" thing, then you have to basically figure out the functionality of all the forms and their associated spells for yourself, especially difficult if you play the console version and never bothered much with spells.

So in that spirit, a user-friendly Fade would be nice. For me, the Fade is like Irenicus's dungeon. Cool the first few times, skipped after that.

The Fade is, in my opinion, the only thing that separates the Dragon Age from a "generic medieval low-fantasy" setting. Story-wise, it has a lot of potential and it'd be for the better to expand on it during this sequel. I say keep it but tweak it to make it workable for the people who didn't like it.

WAIT PEOPLE, I do like the idea of the fade but the Mages tower was so poorly done that it makes me NOT want it to return in the same sort of way in DA2
