For people who can read Dutch (http://overbyte.nl/a...nisten-zijn-hip), but I'll translate it in short here.

Why are so many people so pissed off about this? I don't get it. Let me explain. In Mass Effect you choice your appearance, your class and your 'origin', sort of. In Dragon Age you choice your origin, your class, your appearance and... That's it. I don't see any difference yet.

"But choicing your character's exact words and not hearing them makes it more easy to place yourself into that character, make it an extension of yourself!" That's also a thing I don't really get. You still walk the paths BioWare laid out for you, you still choice the words BioWare has written down and that's it.

I'd rather hear some awesome voice talking. The short segments of text work really well in Mass Effect. I have to admit: the 'humor' and way your character talks is already defined, but what's the problem with that? In Dragon Age you choice a voice to only hear him say that he is dying or he can't open up a box. Wow... How immersive!

TL;DR? I don't get the hate.

I'm all for the wheel. I hated standing there like a hunk of slab watching NPCs have conversations with themselves.

I hear you. Still playing Dragon Age and loving it. Even Knights or Baldur's Gate, but I really feel reading a bunch of lines to choice one and not hearing it is becoming a thing of the past.

What was sucky about it? Would it make you feel better if you could read line for line what She- Hawke is going to say?

Thank you, now people will stop complaining about there being a single voice actor for each gender. Heck, I hated how in DA:O the voice never seemed to fit the description fo it in the creation screen.

Oh I agree, I hate the Mass effect dialog, Its says something comepletely different to what it says on screen. Not to mention that we will most likely have to walk into a forest to some tree, to have a conversation with someone. Like Awakening.

This game isnt the Dragon age we have came to love anymore. Face the facts people. Its doesnt even sound like an RPG anymore to me.Image IPB

what made it sucky.... let's see: for once the fact that  i could for example choose "i don't trust you" and got a speech saying how loyal i was to the alliance. than that there always was ONE right dialoque option, all others werent effective in sense of gameplay (besides some "yes-nos") and that my character was an stereotype action hero so i couldn't play as anything else than "some guy with gun huh-huh".

There is the whole "my PC is not acting like i thought he would" thing, but another big negative point is the fact that having a full VO PC significally cuts down on the overall amout of dialogue there is to be had.

A dev stated the very thing before the release of DA:O. I'm paraphrasing here:
"Having the PC talk would have meant to cut down half the dialoge you can have"

I think it's understandable that people are not too thrilled about that. Especially if they don't even consider hearing your PC talk as being something positive.

What defines a game as an RPG? Whether or not it has a voiced main character?

I'm glad DA2 is getting the dialogue wheel. (Hopefully) No amount of complaining can change that.

Go pout.:P

actually that doesn't make a difference. the renegade option was "bad" often enough so that you could think of yourselfe "man im an ****!", but because ur morality level was the thing givinbg u good dialoque iotions u had to go fully renegade.

The game has barely begun development and youve got a problem with it, I trust bioware to make the right choice with their game even if EA has a hand in it or not, ME had a great dialogue system and if DA2 has it I for one will gladly accept it

Okay. If you hate Mass Effect, I see why you hate this. I just made this topic to show BioWare that there are as many people who DO love this choice. People who don't have something to complain are more quiet usually. NOT ME :@.

I thought it was great, because I did feel a link with Shepard. You are always playing a role which BioWare has mildly defined for you. I don't really see the added value of reading a few extra lines which you don't even hear and then hearing the same answer to some/most of them.

I thought it was bad when Bioware announced your LI from ME1 would be cameos. They've said little to nothing but that there will be a dialogue wheel and are getting death threats, claims that they dont care about fans, and threats of not buying the game (We all know how true the last one is)

I hope Bioware studios are bomb-safe.

The dialogue wheel and RPG's don't mix. Mass effect isn't a pure RPG so I don't mind it there that much, but it removes too much control from what your character does and says for it to be valid for real RPG's.

Many other games use full text, and they do so successfully. If you don't have the patience for full text, then you don't have the patience for the dialogue wheel either, since you need to read the subtitles or listen to the text regardless to know what your character does and says.

I have nothing against reading dialogue, but I just don't see it as an added value.

Hell. I'm so neurotic I read almost any text in the game.

It's also about success of course. I think Mass Effect appeals to a wider audience than Dragon Age and that's great. It's awesome to talk one of your friends into playing ME, much harder to do with DA :P.

Dragon Age is actually more popular sales wise than Mass Effect.

I don't get what control you lose. Do you mean that you don't know exactly what words your character is going to say? What if it had a traditional dialogue tree like DAO, but the man character was fully voiced?

It's not a matter of patience, for me. I've been playing CRPGs since Ultima 3 -- I am used to reading text. I just find it a lot more engaging and immersive when my character speaks, instead of staring blankly at the NPC she's supposed to be chatting with.
