I found it interesting that when Victor asked us for which country beyond Ferelden would we most like to visit in future games, the Free Marches came in sixth and yet DA2 is to be set in the Free Marches.

We don't know if it will be ALL in the free marches now, no?
It might as well be a heavenly part in Ferelden... AGAIN!

It is likely that you'd get to visit Nevarra and Antiva though. Add them together and we have 19%.
As long as I can keep the dog-people at a safe distance I'm fine.

As one of those who voted Free Marches I'm happy with this. For a standard RPG plot it is the most logical place to base the campaign. Other places have too much centralised control for the PC to be a mover and shaker.

I agree. As long as we don't go to Ferelden AGAIN, it's still fine

Is there any reason why DA2 is set in the free marshes? Or is there a possibility this is a multi-continent setting?

Please, please, please can people stop calling them the Free Marshes?
Anyway, I like the idea of uniting a fractured land, and the Free Marches seem to fit.

So Bioware would set it in Tevinter because that's what 460 people want?

Of course not, but then... why ask for our opinion if they have already decided where it is going to be set?

1) It could be a case of soliciting feedback and choosing not to follow it.
2) It could be that they weren't so worried about DA2 so much as other things.
This can only mean Dragon Age: Stompin' Birds in Tevinter for your iPhone!

Maybe it is for DA3. I think that they were set on TFM by that time anyways.

True, but Bioware probably have future games planned, so it's always possible Orlais or Tevinter become the setting of a future game.
Do we know if Hawke travels beyond the Free Marches?

And Nevarra was part of the Free Marches until it grew in size and became it's own country. Thedas is a huge playground for Bioware to have a fiddle with.

There's a difference between the popular option and the best option. Look at #2 on that poll. Orlais? Really? If the game was set in Orlais, 90% of the characters would have those feux-French accents, and the game would have been mocked endlessly because of it. These polls aren't exactly scientific either and the people who vote in them don't necessarily think things through before casting their digital ballot.
BioWare should pick countries that allow them to tell the story that want to tell. Perhaps they can ask us for feedback so they can have an idea of what we're thinking, but we are by no means an authority on anything and it would be foolish to allow populism to dominate core design choices.
