Is it only me or do you also get the feeling that they just
decided to throw Dragon age away and remake Mass effect in medieval times?
They did Dragon age origins like Balders gate,
neverwinter etc and I truly loved it and I really really wanted to see Dragon
age 2 and see how it would continue the story...especially how my character would contribute even more to Thedas!
The truth is that I wouldn't be so upset if they
had started the Dragon age franschise as Mass effect, locked into a single
character with only so many choices but they didnt...
Dragon age 2 might be a great game, even greater then Dragon age Oigins but removing choices is what makes me quistion if they really are going the right way with this...
What do you think?
Mass effect turn medieval?

We dont know practically anything yet about this game. Locked in the single character doesnt necessarily mean piperun game, this might be very well be open ended game similar to DA:O. Only your starting point is locked, but how you go forward from there on might not be.

More like Fable II Meet Mass Effect.
The idea that you can pick one race - human with an already given name (Sparrow or Shephard) making choices that affects the game over a number of year make this sound like a new Fable game (going from boy to adult). The gameplay gonna be like MEII I'm sure though with the dialogue box and such.
Doesn't have to be a bad thing... But stil.

This is literally brought up in every single thread. So no, you're obviously not alone.
From what we know so far, yes it does look like they are incorporating some things from Mass Effect (VO, wheel, preset char) but I sincerly doubt that its going to be just "Mass effect turned medieval."

Well, I don't think it will be medieval shooter with RPG elements. I don't think the paper/rock/scissors game of higher difficulties will involve removing armor, barriers and shields either.
I do that that it will be fully voiced and have a dialogue wheel like ME does. (Of course it won't have anything like Paragon/Renegade points, as has already been confirmed in the thread with 'morality meter' in the title.)
The games are always going to react to each other and take what works for them. But I think it's jumping to conclusions to say that DA2 will have nothing other than its setting to distinguish itself from ME.

At this stage, thinking they've just made Dragon Age into a medieval Mass Effect is just ridiculous.

Yeah. It sucks after so many choices in DA:O. As a elf-fan, being forced to be human is dissapointing.
But one game that proves being forced to be one character is not necessarily bad. The Witcher. You are just Geralt Of Rivia, but game is so open that it is almost exhausting. You sneeze somewhere and it affects what someone says in the end of the game and so on (exaggerated example of course). That games replay value is only diminished by its repetive back&forth running and bad inventory and average gameplay design. But anyway, perhaps DA2 will aim to be like that.

We can hope
Also, you lot do remember we got a bit of a fixed name in Origins too, right? Each Origin foisted a different surname on you. I remember expecting them to make more of it than they did -- as it was, only "Cousland" (if you were a human noble) ever seemed to turn up in conversation...

I'm not necessarily against having a "fixed" character, if that's the style they want to use for a series. What surprises the hell out of me is that they are making this significant a change to a successful game that was done with a different style. This change is a big disappointment for me.
I won't claim that this change will stop me from buying DA2. I will still buy it, and I'll probably enjoy it. But in my mind it's unlikely to ever match up (no matter what else the game has) to DAO without the wider character customization.
As usual, if they were to make KOTOR3 (with wide character customization) all will be forgiven;)
