Why people hate Hawke already

And in general I want my own character, not some hawk.

Exactly. If Hawke got a choice of race, I'd forgive the lack of 2 origins per race, even though that was by far the best part of DA:O. I'd even deal with the idea of always having to be called "Hawke"...although they could pick a more racially neutral surname. The fact that I can't be a dwarf or elf or human as I choose and the have the game react to that choice as it did in DA:O takes a huge amount of the immersion away from the game.
My excitement when DA2 was announced was huge. My disappointment when I found this information out was colossal. DA:O was the most fun RPG I've ever played. I spent more hours playing it that I ever have on a non-MMO. No dwarves=no deal.

DA:O's was the Warden's story. The Story was about the Warden. Bioware gave you their characters in DA:O, you just got to choose their race and social standing.
It was never 'your' story. If DA:O was my story, I would've tried to kill Duncan when he forced me into the Wardens.
You were the Warden, a person thrust into a situation you did not want to be in. Yes, there were limits. Those limits typically involved not doing suicidal things, such as picking fights with those so far beyond your level of skill you should simply be awed by their presense. Or have you forgotten how close to your own level good ol' Jory was?

Well I didn't like being called Warden all the time. I hated the Wardens. Didn't ruin DA:O for me.
That was more of a title than a last name

Meh. You're the PC. Every one is beatable.
Regardless, even if Duncan wasn't... why couldn't I just run away. Jory died because he tried to fight off Duncan. I think my rogue would've stood a chance if he just pegged it.

You're trying to negotiate with a situation beyond your control. Duncan is better than you at that juncture. He is stronger, faster, smarter and better equipped. You fight, you die. You run, you die. There is only one choice, because all other choices result in an outcome where you do not survive. Except for one where you are sent to a prison for the rest of your life.

I do think the team at BioWare will make a great story regardless.

world grown too tame.
Ugh. Really? Man on edge? I'm not playing a man. Living the life of an outcast in a world grown too tame? This is still the Dragon Age, and Hawke is apparently an outcast because "he" fled the Blight. How is that too tame? Does he whine a lot about how nobody can understand him, too?
It's like they want me to hate this character. Ugh.

I know, but we will never see the female version in advertising. Much like the Marketing Version of Commander Shepard, who is a great big jerk, Marketing Hawke already seems obnoxious to me.
I'm just bitter right now, though. I never thought Duncan's luxurious beard could be used for such nefarious purposes. It's bumming me out.
