story start ferelden- Apostate
game start free marches-unknown knowledge mage

What if Hawke was a child in Ferelden who hadn't manifested any magical ability yet, only discovering his abilities in the Free Marches, or perhaps in the escape from Ferelden?  Then, the ferelden prologue wouldn't have much consequence on his mage status.

If you decide to go through with the right of annulment in the broken circle quest, gregoir will mention that they will rebuild the circle by sending a word to the orlesian and antivan circles,so we know there are circles in there atleast. We also know from the map floating around the forum that even though orlais is a neighboring country, antiva is actually further away than free marches, which suggests that there is no circle in the marches or they would surely send word to their circle aswell if theyre sending one all the way to antiva.

Interesting, I didn't know that since I never side with the templars   Silly templars.  But it could also be that there's no CENTRALIZED Circle in the Free Marches, and each city-state does have a Circle, but not one of enough consequence or with enough people to aid Ferelden's.

Well they haven't said the age of the character when the village is attacked. So it's possible.

Seeing as how there's no origins and no mention of the circle tower would that mean that a mage character would be an Apostate?

I sure hope so.  I've already played a Circle mage.

Antiva is on west side of free marches

Tevinter Imperium is on north side of free marches

Nevarra is on east side of free marches

Well you'd probably at least be an Apostate from the start. Though I guess once you're in the free marches you wouldn't have to worry about that so much.

Like Gregoir always says, be sure to have your apostate clan checked regularly.

On-topic: Do we even know the relative power of the Chantry in the Free Marches? Do they take an Orlesian or Tevinter approach to magic, etc.? I'm curious.

I have no idea, though if we run into any members of the Chantry or Templars it might be a bit awkward with the sister being a mage and if you play as a mage as well.

If you play as a Mage you start off as a Apostate who was trained by your Father as was Bethany. Hell Hawke, and Bethany's Mother's last name is Amell. And the game starts off with them in what looks to be their early twenties in Lothering.
