If you don't like it, i can understand, Bioware should give an option to switch it off, or mute it.
But they would need an exceptionally good voice actor.

I'm not even going to read anything past the first post, simply because the answer is simple-
NO.
ME and ME2's codexes are shrimps compared to DAO's blue whale.
VO's are already expensive. To cover the codex, assuming it will be around the same size as DAO's, would be catastrophic to the budget of the game and the time of the voice actors/actresses.
"catastrophic to the budget"
exagerate much?
lolz
I'm not exaggerating any more than the people jumping down Bioware's throat for DA2.
Too bad you didn't "read anything past the first post" otherwise you might have encountered my mathematical breakdown of how much it would actually cost to voice the codex compared to the $100,000,000.00 (and counting) Bioware has made on Dragon Age.

I read somewhere that an hour in a very high budget recording studio takes a couple of thousand. The codex will span ten years, including new characters environments etc, and keep in mind the amount of re-takes and also the payment for the voice actor (per hour).
It might not be too "catastrophic" in your eyes, but perhaps it is better spent on an actual npc/questline/sweet ninja armor rather than having something read to us.

Sorry, not going to respond/read any more of your posts, because you obviously didn't read mine.

I did. Regardless of how much profit they made, there is such a thing as a fixed budget, and I believe it is better allocated elsewhere. I didn't mean this in a hostile way.
Jeeeeeeeeez why is everyone so touchy nowadays. Every post turns into some sort of personal argument instead of a calm discussion.

Screen Actor's Guild minimum rate is ~$760.00 for a FOUR-hour session, not a 1 hour session as previously stated, so my earlier estimate would be divided by 4, which is even cheaper.
I'll edit the figures in my previous post to reflect the lower, more accurate estimate.

Top 10 most expensive video game budgets ever
10. Killzone - $45 million
9. Final Fantasy XII - $48 million
8. L.A. Noire - $50 million (can't wait for this one)
7. APB - $50 million
6. Halo 3 - $55 million
5. Metal Gear Solid 4 - $60 million
4. Too Human - $60+ million
3. Shenmue - $70 million (lolz)
2. Gran Turismo 5 - $80 million
1. Grand Theft Auto 4 - $100 million (seems there was some scandal over GTA4 voice acting salaries iirc)
Yeah, with budgets like this I seriously doubt Bioware would be sweating dropping $5k+ on a codex voice actor if they really wanted one.

It's not just Bioware forums unfortunately. It seems like any game these days that gets a sequel, fans go crazy over slightest change they do.
I was recently at TW2 forums and they are no better than here

I figure, if we're going to take the dialogue wheel from Mass Effect, we might as well take the Codex system too! I admit I don't read a lot of the codex entries from Dragon Age, but I would certainly listen to them if I could. Duncan's VA should be the narrator. or Brother Genitivi, since he writes most of the stuff
When I read the Mass Effect codex, I always turn off the sound because I want to READ the codex, not listen to it. Besides, I can read it faster than the voice does.

I'd like to think everyone can...unless maybe they're reading it in a foreign language (and would the voice even be helpful then?)Epantiras wrote...

Honestly...I'd much rather have the $5k or whatever it might cost spent on a single hairstyle (or even another tattoo/different eyebrows/anything) other than being spent on what has to be one of the most annoying features I've ever encountered in a game.
And seriously...who can't eat a sandwich and read at the same time?
Again with the false dilemma. Guess what - you can have tattoos, hairstyles AND an audio codex all at the same time! Holy crap! Who woulda thunk it...? /yawn
And if it's annoying for you, that's why you make it optional. That way those that don't like it don't have to use it.
Why is it so hard to understand that more options would make the game better overall? Or maybe we should just nix every feature every time a few people say they find it annoying.
Some people are perfectly happy playing text only RPG's, so I guess DA2 should just cut out all the graphics, music & voice acting, because all that money could be spent on writers.

Yes, I lied. I was actually waiting for someone to read it out for me because the left to right thing that you have to do with your eyes when you read is so tiring.
