Seifz, I was mostly replying to the trolling really. I can see your reasoning, and while I wouldn't mind a native port, I'd at least say get the Windows version done first before investing too many resources. I'm playing in Windows myself, so it doesn't really bother me, but I still think it's legitimate to ask and not getting flamed for it.

Who knows, maybe they'll pull a miracle. But DA2 is half a year away and even the Windows versions of DA:O/Awakening are still riddled with bugs (broken quests/dialogs/etc). Even if they had an in house port, that alone is no guarantee the Mac version would be up to par with the Windows one.

Valve released in-house ports years after HL2+episodes, if there is no time, they don't have to do it for release date *now* if they port their engine, they can release an in-house DA2 port and have same release dates for win/mac in their future games.

My experience with Blizzards games is that mac versions are 100% on par, Valve is almost there as well, which is impressive considering for how little time they've released their games on mac.

The OP didn't ask if DA2 was being ported to MacOS.  He asked BioWare to do a native, in-house port of DA2 to MacOS.  This takes valuable zots.   I would prefer to see those zots used on the Windows version of the game.  Thus, it's entirely logical that I reply to this thread.  I have no idea why anyone thinks that only supporters should reply!

It's entirely logical if you are in charge of allocating the Bioware Zots. Otherwise, you're just taking up space.
If someone wants to see DA2 come to the Virtual Boy, this idea can be judged on it's own merits. Posting in the DA2-VB thread just to say you oppose this idea comes across as desperate, and a little obnoxious.

FWIW, I think the mac has the advantage of being an enviroment fully suited for a massive RPG like this. The consoles, bless their processor hearts, are still getting there.

I agree on that, I find it a little odd to see "don't port" posts, tbh seeing what's written so far in this thread, I don't know what to say.

The mac has no relative hardware advantage per se, its hardware is PC hardware (usually high end but still same hardware is available for PC), it's not better nor worse.

I want to see DA 2 on the Virtual Boy...the DA franchise is so bloody no one could complain about the all red screens. Boohoo, poor Virtual Boy...rest in peace.

I wish they would port DA 2 to the Mac as well but, as others have said, it's a small percentage of the market. So game companies have to decide if they want profit or coverage. It's like releasing a VCR movie on VHS and Beta...is it worth the money to release it on Beta? Maybe...if the game sells well then later we shall. I'm sure as Windows and Apple's OSes become more and more alike there will be a unified release and dog and cats shall live together happily.

No, that doesn't make sense.  I'm paying just as much as anyone else to fund those zots.  If I think they might be used in a way that I don't like, I should speak against using them in that way and instead using them for something that I do like.  Your loigic sounds like this:

"The government is spending X million dollars on education.  Someone posts that they would like to see 10% of that moved into government salaries instead.  I don't agree with that change and I would rather see that money spent on education.  Since I'm not in charge of allocating dollars, it's a little obnoxious of me to post my thoughts."

That's just silly.

Never used a mac but I hope you get a native client. I have experience of Transgaming through their Eve client for Linux. It was so bad that we all used wine instead which was leaps and bounds beyond the broken mess they could offer. CCP eventually cut support for the official Linux Eve client because no one was using it. Wine still runs Eve very well.

cider is total bull, a couple of months after game release, it's not uncommon at all to have wine surpassing the cider version that ships with the game. Imo ciderized versions aren't worth their money.

So this post is leaps and bounds better then I ever thought possible! Wow! @Lyssistr - a very fair argument in all points (Unix, Cider, zots, et. al.)! @MacHaters - I paid a little bit more for my machine so that I could be more productive and make more zots then I would have if I had paid for a PC. A computer is an investment of time and zots and in my experience I find that Mac owners have a significantly higher return on their zots. Now...the issue becomes what to do with those enhanced zots once it is time to switch from productivity to entertainment. I LOVE to use those zots for Mac games. And, to be honest, I do well with the number of companies who release Mac games (ports or native) that are out there. Valve, Blizzard, Paradox do really fine things for Macs. And from personal experience talking to company executives they do well enough financially to make it worth while...although admittedly not as well as their main target market (Consoles!). If a game company wants my zots they need to produce a quality product that I want on a platform I want to play on. Period.

I think BioWare should stop developing games for the PC since that takes away zots from developing for (my favorite console). Since PC are few compared to console gamers, and PCs are used mainly in administration and in the IRS, and we all know these guys aren't creative enough to play a decent game.

An analogy:
The government decides to give me 10 million dollars for a nice house. Then it decides to spend 1 million dollars for education. I don't know whether this means I now get 9 or 10 million dollars, since education people normally don't build houses, so someone else will be hired to teach children, but anyway I demand to get everything the government spends for my house. Education sucks anyway.

I don't think people wanted a Mac vs PC flame war. It's simply a question of whether there will be a Mac version of DA 2. I think it's a valid question because DA:O and Awakening and the DLC are available on Mac, so it seems DA 2 might be coming. Perhaps a better source of an answer would be Transgaming, which did the DA ports...?

I remember Transgaming was notoriously vague about porting Awakening, DLC, and the patches. I wouldn't expect a revealing answer. (Provided they get/got hired to do the DA2 port at all...)

DA Transgaming port is playable but unstable (still way better job than for example Virtual Programming usually does)... Plus since it's not native, it's performance is bad, even on my i7.

Still better than nothing.

DA2 on Mac? Could be nice. Native? I would buy it. If it's another Cider, I'm not convinced. DA2 premade main character system ain't that appealing anyway....

I was in contact with Mike Laidlaw. He said that they haven't announced the details of the Apple version (which hopefully means that its in the works). but as with DA:O, it might be a transgaming port that is released a little after the initial release date. I'm hoping for a native version but I'm not holding my breath *that* long...

This is what I heard back from Mike Laidlaw: "I believe we have confirmed a Mac version, yes. I'm not sure if they're on the same DVD, sorry".

Looking at the EA and Bioware pre-order sites I would assume that EA has forced Bioware to use the dual compatible DVD/Graphics formats for both MAC and PC (Thereby saving a lot of money) much like the SIMS have always been.

I was suggested to contact Chris Priestly about this. Just did that, hoping to hear back soon.

I have a thread in which Priestly confirmed it. Too lazy to find link

On the other hand, EA doesn’t confirm this info. I sent an email about that and got this:
Hi!Actually, my question is about Dragon Age 2, sorry about that.
[i/Anyway, my question is: I'm from Brazil, and there is a pre-purchase of Dragon Age 2 in EA Brazil webstore, but only for Windows.I really would like to buy it, but I need to know if, I purchase it now, I will be able to download the Mac Version of it.And since there will be a Mac Version (confirmed by this topic in Bioware Forums: http://social.biowar...index/3083011/5 ), this is my problem.

The answer:

Hello customer,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support.
Well, I cannot give any official statement about this as we don't receive any updates from Bioware. That includes possibility or approx. release date for Mac. I'm sorry for unable to provide you any further information about the Mac version.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely,
NathanielEA Customer Rep

It's all too secretive for me. Makes my nose twitch. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Like we have a choice.  (By Daveth)
If DA2 will be released for Mac at the same time for PC, why there is not a pre-purchase for Macs? WHY??
